still dying on Mt Everest

..they died in 1996 because of a bottleneck also
the humans become fixated/obsessed to the point of insanity
....one of the deaths in 1996 was one climber that didn't make it on a previous trip--so it seems he had no business trying this dangerous quest

Someone needs to manage the traffic

Cut off ascents at a certain number of climbers
No reason there should be a line to get to the top

The local economy survives on climbers ... the dead ones pay up front.

they don't even climb it themselves ---the Sherpas do all the work

The Sherpas don't carry them.
the Sherpas do all the work

Sherpas set up ropes and ladders and bridges over the crevasses
thank you RWinger
I take back what I said about some not making it without the Sherpas
MANY would not make it without the Sherpas

They all pay like $60,000 up front

Totally worth it to get your body left as as landmark where Japanese tourists take selfies!

there is a narrow time frame of weather for climbing Everest
During our four Everest expeditions the window has come every year at about the same time, around the 23rd of May and has lasted for about a week.
The Jet stream is the main concern on Everest weather. This westerly wind will have a large impact on your choice for a summit day.
A problem with waiting for the window could be other climbers. Most expeditions schedule their attempt for the 10th of May, and by the 23rd at least half of the expeditions will have returned home. Most commercial expeditions have an end date around the 20th. When you plan for your expedition - make sure you have the resources to stay until the permit ends (1st of June).

.....in the book Into Thin Air, the head of the guide company offered one of the men who died--- on his second try--- a discount because he did not make it the first time-----------both died
[ if I recall correctly ]

It's getting ridiculous on Everest. Once you get above 8000 meters and into the "death zone", you obviously need supplemental oxygen. That's no problem as long as you can keep moving to the summit, and head straight back down.
The problem today, they get these traffic jams on the ropes, and climbers are forced to wait sometimes several hours, for other climbers to summit and descend.
Many end up running out of oxygen due to the wait time and end up becoming oxygen starved. If they don't get dragged back down the mountain to a safe altitude, they die.

Anyone ever read the story about "Green Boots" ? This guy has been on the mountain since 1996.

Is this proof that no black person ever made the climb? Those boots would have been stolen if they had.

I think they have safety ropes tied to the climbers also ..I would think

Fcuk that shiat!
from what I've read, it is not just uncomfortable near the top using oxygen/etc, but a lot of the way up is uncomfortable......have to get used to using oxygen/etc--this is not normal

Blame Nepal, the government is crooked, and they'll issue climbing permits to anyone with a pulse. They care only about the money that Everest generates, and could care less if they issue a permit to some unqualified oaf that puts other lives in jeopardy on the mountain.

yes, especially considering the narrow window of time to make the final climb
