student escorted out of class for not saying the pledge

Don't care for the ACLU. And that is my own humble feelings. No matter how much good some claim they have done.

Maybe you should educate yourself about the GOOD they have done rather than focus SOLELY on the few cases you DISAGREE with. I for one believe the FLAG stands for MORE than just the cloth any given flag is made from. I believe the flag can stand up to being burned by protesters and I find it SAD that you don't think it can. That being said you have EVERY right to your opinion and I would stand by your side to DEFEND that right from ANYONE foriegn OR domestic.

We shouldn't?

I mean, my Great great great gradfather was cousin to T Jefferson. So why shouldn't someone be related to someone on the mayflower.

But if it's not true then....well, ok....
I was just joking with Samson. My ancestors came over much later than the pilgrims and I don't say the pledge but I'm 100% American.

And i was going to rep you for your ancestors beating mine.......

As for the pledge that's up to you as long as you show respect for others.
You can still rep me anyway.

I have never interfered with or objected to anyone else saying the pledge. I've been punished for not saying it, however. By a teacher in the same school system as the student in question on the OP. The teacher tried to humiliate me into saying it by asking me every morning if I was going to stand and say the Pledge with the rest of the class or if I was going to remain seated. I always replied that I would remain seated and so every morning was ordered to stand out in the hall during the saying of the Pledge so that my presense would not sully the ceremony. The tactics back-fired on the teacher as eventually two other students decided to join me. One of them was not an American citizen and his reason for refusing to say the Pledge is that it amounted to a renunciation of his own nationality. Perfectly acceptable reason in my eyes. Even the most rabid faux patriot could hardly disagree with that reason. I always thought that punishing that kid showed just how ridiculous that teacher was.

The TEACHER should be ARRESTED for violating the student's CIVIL RIGHTS!! She should ALSO be FIRED immediately!

Calm down there hotshot! It's gonna be alright I promise. No need for anyone's lives to get all fucked up over this kinda mistake. Not like the teacher said the word ****** or anything and everyone made it home with all extremities intact so it can be worked out. Let the teacher eat his/her crow and we can all smile and sing koom baya or whateve,r if you and yours will let us that is.

You don't believe that, do you?

We shouldn't?

Would love to hear your reasoning as to why you will not say the pledge. You baited this question by saying so at least twice in this thread and once you said that you will not say it because of love of for this country. I am very interested at this point.

I think I already said so, or maybe it was in another thread. I do not believe the USA is 'under God". To me, if that were true, it would mean that we are not a democracy after all. That phrase should never have been inserted. It ruins what was once an eloquent expression of loyalty and respect for our country. I also do not believe the saying of the Pledge should be mandatory. To force people to say it negates it's validity.

we aren't a democracy anyway

Having children stand up and recite a "pledge of allegiance" every school day is ridiculous to begin with. People can decide for themselves where their loyalties lie when they're adults.

Coming from anti-american back-stabbing Sand N#gger like yourself, who would expect any less.

Should kids be forced to say the pledge each and every mourning? Damn right they should. Fuck the PC shit and fuck the liberal BS! The pledge of alliance is NOT a religious thing its an American thing. If your an American or a non-citizen resident of this country and you refuse to say the pledge of alliance, then I say the hell with you!

Sounds like something Hitler would say.
Why would you expect a citizen of another country to pledge allegiance to this country? They owe allegiance to their own countries.

this was quite the anti-american, freedom hating rant. wouldn't expect anything else from you though.

Can we really call America the land of the free if people are forced to pledge allegiance to it?

To me, the most important part of the article is the following, "The incident began on a Wednesday in late January, when the girl did not stand for the pledge"

This whole this is not because she wouldn't "say" the pledge but because she wouldn't stand during the pledge. Can you imagine one of our lawmakers visiting a country and not standing when that country said their pledge or played their patriotic song? It's a matter of manners of which the girl obviously has none.

I learned it way back in third grade when one of my classmates was from England. She always stood during the pledge though she never said it. I asked her why she stood and she said "out of respect for your country."

The girl has no respect for our country and you think the teacher is wrong? If I was the teacher, I would resign before apologizing. She was in the right, I can't believe the school won't back her up.

Oh, and by the way, had the girl stood and then was escorted out for "not saying the pledge", I'd be all over it too, she has the right not to say the pledge, she doesn't have the right to disrespect our country and our fellow citizens.

It's called respect for the flag, respect for the country providing this free education, and respect for the teacher who may be offended by some asshole who is too lazy to stand.

We say it before public meetings and we stand for the national anthem.

If you hate this country and have no respect for those of us who don't - move.

I am so sick of students saying "you can't make me do anything I don't want to" and some idiot adults saying "yeah kids - that's what freedom is about"

So refusing to take a pledge means you hate the country?

I refuse to take an oath of loyalty to Canada, yet I harbour no ill will towards the it. Your assertion has been refuted.

So then hire a lawyer and sue the government. Its a damned shame that so many idiots get upset over something so simple as 2 little words. If they mean nothing to you then why be upset. Everytime i see the word God in print I take it to mean God as I see it. Not the way you or anyone else does. Try it sometime. It's also called respect for others. And don't even think about telling me I hate freedom ever again, I'll allow you to get by with that this time.

Would you say the same thing if it said 'Allah Akbar'?

Somehow, I doubt it.

Allah is another language for God. And means the god of Abraham same as the Jewish and Christian God.

Nice evasion. What it it said 'By the blessings of Zeus' or 'By Sekhmet's mercy' or 'Under the bright Morning Star, Lord Lucifer'?

I made this mistake a few years ago when I wrote up a disciplinary referral on a kid who refused to stand. I knew they didn't have to say the Pledge, but I thought they still had to stand like people do in stadiums. I was wrong. But the kid wasn't making a political statement. He was just too lazy. (He's in jail now)

For something entirely unrelated, yes? :eusa_eh:
Isn't one of the purposes of a free public education is to foster patriotism and civic duty?
No. It's to educate. If the system is worth preserving, then educated men and women will understand that and preserve it, just as they will destroy any system worth destroying (see the CCCP, the Articles of Confederation, or the LoN).

I agree it's to educate...but...isn't civic duty part of education?
At this time, I'd like to refer you to the education v. indoctrination thread.

Allegiance to one's country should not be forced, but it should be expected. Anyone not pledging allegiance should be bitchslapped and sent to Git'mo. IMO

yea because not doing a voluntary act in a free country is terrorism :cuckoo::cuckoo:
Lonestar is sounding a bit like a terrorist himself. Swear that your country is under my god or I'll bitch slap you and send you for water boarding. :cuckoo:

The ACLU got it ruled several years back that we could not force children to say or even learn the Pledge of Allegiance.

Just another reason I can't stand the ACLU.

Yeah I lost a lot of respect for them when they defended druggie Rush.
i am wondering when they are going to defend the 2nd amendment.....

Here's your FIRST CLUE THIS IS BULLSHIT

The unidentified student was mocked by other children in her class and has been too traumatized to return to Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown, according to Ajmel Quereshi, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland who is representing the family.

TEACH THESE YOUNGSTERS TO HATE their Country. Thatta' Way!:clap2:

Makes one wonder, just what kind of name is Ajmel Quereshi?

Presumably the kind given by parents.

See, that kind of thinking is why you people have been pissing people off for the last 2000 years and everyone keeps trying to kill you.

Just sayin'.
