student escorted out of class for not saying the pledge

Sadly, our president never recites the pledge, nor places a hand over his heart. He clasps his hands in front of his privates, which is becoming known as his "crotch salute."

Sadly, you're just another retard. What brought you out of the woodwork this time - a crotch malfunction?

It's called respect for the flag, respect for the country providing this free education, and respect for the teacher who may be offended by some asshole who is too lazy to stand.

We say it before public meetings and we stand for the national anthem.

If you hate this country and have no respect for those of us who don't - move.

I am so sick of students saying "you can't make me do anything I don't want to" and some idiot adults saying "yeah kids - that's what freedom is about"

So refusing to take a pledge means you hate the country?

I refuse to take an oath of loyalty to Canada, yet I harbour no ill will towards the it. Your assertion has been refuted.

Um...you missed the part about the student refusing to stand. Standing is out of respect. She didn't have to take the pledge, no one does, but it's good manners to STAND while others recite the pledge. The teachers job is not just to teach the 3 "r"s but to teach ethics as well. Can you imagine if Obama went to Saudi Arabia and didn't stand for their flag?

Before getting too wound up about this incidence of the child refusing to repeat P.O.A. like a good little sheeple; the article makes no mention as to why the child chooses not to repeat it. The implication is that this is a sudden event after what appears to be years of rote repetition. A sudden political awareness? Joined a new church? Teenage act of rebellion?

Before patting the child on the back, or condemning her, I would like to know the answers.

The teacher, little fascist that she is, should get a couple of days off, with instructions to read the constitution, in addition to what they have already done.

The student didn't just refuse to say the POA, she refused to stand during it. That's a decided lack of respect for the flag and our country. As I said before, I learned the difference back in 3rd grade when we had an English girl attending our school and she always stood during our pledge even though she never participated. When I asked her why, she told me it was out of respect for my country. Her parents taught her right....wish today's parents would do the same but it seems they weren't taught manners either.

So not standing is disrespect and means you hate America?

Is everyone with a bum leg a terrorist? Are elderly veterans who are unable to stand anti-American?

Fail.

It has little to do with "hating the country" I was speaking of the adults who would like to do away with the Pledge altogether. In a high school, it has everything to do with hating adults who force you to do something you'd rather not. Adolescent psychology 101.

If a kid had a legitimate gripe with US policy or saying the word "God" he or she should be excused from the room. If they just "didn't feel like standing" they should suffer the same consequences as any other act of insubordination.

I will not break the law. But guess what? I don't know one teacher who would inform their class of this "right" Adolescent psychology again.

It is against some people's RELIGION to swear alligance to a flag.

To those people that is the same thing as worshipping false idols.

This issue was decided way back in the 1930s, as I recall.

Then, again excuse me, but my memory is hazy, I think it was the 7th day Adventists whose kids went to school, but then had to leave before classes because they couldn't pledge.

I happen to like the pledge, but forcing people to take it invalidates its meaning completely.

If people won't take that pledge because they believe it is a violation of their religion or philosophy, then forcing somebody to join you in taking it devalues it entirely.

Unable and unwilling, two very different scenarios.

What if they're able but unwilling because it hurts?

BTW, I'm sure Stalin would have loved the idea of locking away/shooting people who refuse to take a forced oath.

Oh now we"re shooting people as opposed to giving students a 30 minute detention? Fail again.

Parents have every right to teach their kids to disrespect their country, their teachers, and their classmates. But with that will come a bit of criticism. If you want to be an asshole and raise asshole kids, own it.

You're right and the school handled it badly. But pledging "allegiance" to ones country, is one of the responsibilities of citizenship. That flag symbolizes one's right to be a lazy asshole. With "rights" come responsibilities. People often forget that part.

LEGAL immigrants get it.

And those lazy assholes will get thrown out of a ballpark or concert venue if they don't stand in an arena in NJ. Schools are supposed to prepare kids for real life.

What you say is very true...however...at this point in time we see the result of years of dumbing down America, years of the destruction of the family unit, years of eroding dicipline in the home by parents who don't care about their kids and the stupid ass liberal shit shown on TV 24/7. Parents sign their kids over to Teletubbie and Barney videos hoping they'll relieve them of their responsibility to raise them...this they call "progress".

It's pathetic yet under our Constitution they have the right to disrespect their country, piss on our flag and what it stands for. The founding fathers would be pleased indeed....

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm only 54 years old, and all through my younger years in school we stood and cited the pledge. Funny thing is, I felt PROUD to pledge my allegiance to the flag. That was MY flag, my COUNTRY'S flag, and I saw no reason at all NOT to pledge my allegiance. I think if you feel as though you don't have to say it, or your REFUSE to say it, then people have every right to question just where the hell your allegiance DOES lie. Maybe you'd be more comfortable getting your ass OUT OF AMERICA if you HATE our traditions and PLEDGES so.

I have no use for you people that take such great pleasure in PISSING on America and it's traditions and customs. You are the filth of our land, and I'd just as soon spit in your face as have to look or listen to you.

I've addressed that several times in this very thread.

I hate many old American traditions. For instance, slavery, only allowing rich White men to vote, and going to war over oil while exploiting child slave labour overseas to increase profits margin.

If people didn't oppose traditions, they'd never change.

SO you put your hands over your ears and scream? Perfect example of an ignorant reactionary.

Here's where your argument falls flat on it's face. Try learning the definition of "tradition" and then the definition of "policy" or "law". It's not a "tradition" to have freedom of speech. It's a right. It's not a "tradition" to have slavery...it was the law at the time.

Christmas is a tradition....you on the left have successfully set the foundation for it's destruction....I guess this is what you all call change....great job!!!! :booze:

Comparing the Pledge of Allegiance with slavery. What a fucking moron.

Change just for the sake change is stupid.

Maybe you're one of the ones that I suggested would be more comfortable somewhere OTHER than living in America, so take your fucking commie emblems by your name and get your ass out.

Yes I question YOUR allegiance fuck face.
