Tomorrow, Syria will hold parliamentary elections. There was reportedly remarkable competition among the over 3000 candidates. 250 candidates will be elected into the People´s Assembly. The election contest is already over - Syrian law bans promotion for election candidates 24 hours prior to the date set for the elections.


"Damascus, SANA-Amid remarkable competition among more than 3 thousand candidates, and in an atmosphere of transparency, elections of the people’s Assembly for the 2nd legislative term start on Wednesday to elect 250 members from all Syrian cities.

The ballot boxes whose number exceed more than 7 thousands will open at 7 a.m. and last until 7 p.m.

Judicial sub-committees for the elections announced their readiness to fulfill the elections and provide all requirements of the electoral centers.

Legislative decree No.63 for 2016 fixed the date of the elections on April 13th."


"Damascus, SANA, The electoral silence for People’s Assembly elections came into effect at 07:00 on Tuesday morning as it was announced on Monday by the Higher Judicial Committee for Elections (HJCE).

Decree No. 63 set Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 as a date for electing members of the People’s Assembly for the 2nd legislative term.

On Monday, Head of HJCE Hisham al-Sha’ar told SANA said that electoral silence would start Tuesday morning at 07:00 and candidates would not be allowed to conduct any kind of electoral promotion, pointing out that the concerned authorities in provinces will remove banners, placards and promotions for the elections’
candidates.

Article 58 of the General Elections Law states that promotion for election candidates will stop 24 hours prior to the set date for the elections.

Earlier, HJCE affirmed preparations for holding the upcoming elections of the People’s Assembly as the logistic procedures have been completed for polling stations which exceed 7,000 in the provinces across the country.

The HJCE was formed on April 24th 2014, by Decree No 133 for the year 2014."

"Damascus, SANA – Vice President Dr. Najah al-Attar affirmed on Wednesday that the parliamentary elections are a memorable event held in high regard by all Syrians.

In a statement after casting her vote, al-Attar said that President Bashar al-Assad’s national and genuine stance is to make the Syrians choose candidates who represent them in the best way and work to achieve the Syrians’ goals.

“We hope that those who bear the nation’s massage and who work to serve their homeland and people will win in the elections,” Dr. al-Attar added."

"Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi stressed that the elections taking place in Syria today, along with the achievements of the Syrian Arab Army, are proof of the vitality of the Syrian people and their determination to build the homeland.

In a statement after voting, al-Halaqi said that the elections are complemented by the achievements of the Syrian Arab Army, resuming intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva, the reconstruction process, and expanding local reconciliations.

The Premier said that the enthusiasm shown by Syrians for both voting and running for the elections is a rebuttal to the feeble attempts of Syria’s enemies who want to dismantle the Syrian people’s patriotic awareness.



In a similar statement after voting, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, said “We in Syria constantly say that the Syrian people will decide their fate, and today proves this saying practically. I call upon our people to emphasize this message by exercising their right to vote.”

Al-Moallem said that the Syrians sent a message today that says they are the ones who decide their future, and no other side, no matter what it is, has the right to say “this is legitimate” or “this is illegitimate” in the face of the Syrians’ will.

For his part, Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar affirmed that the strong turnout at the polling centers proves the vitality of the Syrian people and their determination to defy the terrorist war waged against them, pointing out that Syrians are voting today against terrorism, killing and sabotage.

Likewise, Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Minister Mohammad Abdelsattar al-Sayyed said that the unmatched turnout of voters embodies the Syrians’ adherence to their constitutional and national establishments, while Electricity Minister Imad Khamis said the holding the elections at their appointed time shows the strength of the Syrian people and state, a sentiment echoed by Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sufian al-Allaw who stressed that the elections show the people’s commitment to continuing their political life, adding that voting constitutes a practical response to Takfiri and obscurantist mentalities.



Education Minister Hazwan al-Waz said today’s elections are important and pivotal because they are held while a battle for defending Syria and its people is being waged, while Higher Education Minister Mohammad Amer al-Mardini said the elections are an expression of the resilience of the Syrians which they have been showing for five years.

Meanwhile, Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Humam al-Jazaeri said the considerable turnout of voters shows the Syrians will to bolster state establishments, and that elections pave the way for the reconstruction stage.

In turn, Administrative Development Minister Hassan al-Nouri said participating in the elections is participating in Syria’s victory, and that the new People’s Assembly will have major tasks to tackle, while Health Minister said the elections embody how Syrians are overcoming all the odds that are stacked against them.

For her part, State Minister for Environmental Affairs Nazira Serkis said these elections have a distinct quality because the current circumstances in Syria strengthen the sense of affiliation to the homeland among Syrians and raised their awareness, their concern for their country, and their sense of responsibility.

Tourism Minister Bisher Yazigi affirmed on Wednesday that the remarkable turnout to participate in legislative elections today is a proof that the Syrians are strong believers in their state.

In turn, Labor Minister Khalaf al-Abdullah said that the parliamentary elections are an evidence of the Syrian people’s adherence to their national and independent decision.

For his part, Culture Minister Issam Khalil said that electoral process completes the Syrian Arab Army’s role and reflects the Syrians’ appreciation of the sacrifices of martyrs and paves the way for the reconstruction stage to build a modern Syria.

Meanwhile, Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Minister Jamal Shahin considered that the turnout at the polling centers confirms that Syrians are stronger than terrorism and Takfiri schemes."

 
And elections in Aleppo, Deir Ezzor, Raqqa, Deraa, Homs and Europe?!

"Voting centers, which number over 7,300, opened their doors to voters at 7 AM and were initially due to remain open until 7 PM.

The voting centers include over 2,000 centers in Damascus, 17 in Deir Ezzor, 1,047 in Lattakia, 661 in Homs, 347 in Sweida, 741 in Hama, 368 in Hasaka, 816 in Tartous, and 347 in Sweida are receiving voters.

It should be noted that voting centers were opened in Damascus, Damascus Countryside, Hama, Lattakia, Aleppo, Tartous, Hasaka, and Deir Ezzor to receive voters staying in these provinces who are originally from other areas, namely the provinces of Idleb, Raqqa, Aleppo, Deir Ezzor, and Daraa."
