President Trump won because a whole lot of Americans are sick and tired of career politicians and their games. Thus, this essay should ring a bell with a whole lot of us.
We’re too serious and yet too easy-going to have the European tradition of political satire. But as O’Rourke writes, “Feeling good about government is like looking on the bright side of any catastrophe. When you quit looking on the bright side, the catastrophe is still there.” It’s time to grow up and get seriously pessimistic.
