instead of broadening and increasing reasoned and seasoned debate it gave a voice to the feelings frenzy freaks who should have remained voiceless; "The Russians" being a Prime example

The internet does a masterful job of representing humanity as a whole. In general, people are assholes. They were assholes long before the internet came around. There were pricks. Deviants. Douchbags. Racists. Bigots. Conspiracy theorists. All before the internet. The internet has just given them a bigger stage.
