There’s a long history of some political voices accusing Black women of having children primarily for welfare benefits, often using this stereotype to justify restricting assistance. Now, with the proposed “baby bonus” policy from the Trump administration to encourage higher birth rates, the government is being asked to incentivize childbirth for the broader population.

It’s interesting to see how public attitudes toward government support for families can shift depending on which groups are perceived to benefit. Policies that were once stigmatized as “handouts” are now reframed as necessary incentives, reflecting deeper anxieties about changing demographics in America.

The push for women to have more children has a powerful ally: Trump

The White House is emerging as a powerful ally of the burgeoning movement of people who want women to have more children, but there's little emphasis on the unique level of danger that birth poses in the U.S.

Why it matters: The U.S. population is aging, presenting complex economic and health care challenges that "pro-natalists" argue should be addressed through raising fertility rates. At the same time, the country is facing an ongoing maternal mortality crisis and a politically fraught debate over women's reproductive health that's had widespread ripple effects.

  • The pro-natalist movement is splintered into factions with different views, including some with restrictive definitions of what constitutes a family. There's also infighting over exactly how women should be reproducing — with debate around IVF and genetic screening.
  • Some of its most controversial adherents hold racist views that encouraging white people to have more babies could help maintain the race's stability.

Listening to the conspiracies about anti white racism and white genocide, Trump now proposes that the government pay women to have children. I'm old enough to have heard many of the far right proclaiming that black women just have children to get extra money from welfare. But now since Trump believes that the white population is declining and we must always have a white majority, suddenly the government MUST provide money to incentivize childbirth.

Trump administration looking at $5,000 'baby bonus' to incentivize public to have more children

The White House has been fielding proposals aimed at persuading people to marry and have children, an effort being pushed by outside groups focused on increasing the nation's birth rate after years of decline.

One such proposal that has been pitched to White House advisers is a $5,000 "baby bonus" to every American mother after she gives birth.

"Sounds like a good idea to me," President Donald Trump said Tuesday when asked about a $5,000 incentive for new mothers.

This smack of the Nazis paying women to have children in exchange for discharging debts.

Not a horrible idea. It needs a couple qualifiers though. You can’t be on welfare of any kind to collect it.

We have enough people...having said that, I don't get any racist angle here..but nice job of mind-reading Trump..i got a laugh out of it.

However--I'd be inclined to support free Ob/Gyn services for all mothers..maybe with 2 years of child-care credits.

I believe that whites are the only group facing decline. And of course you can't see the obvious, but whites on the right have been whining about white genocide and the need to increase white births for quite some time.

The world needs less babies, not more.

Yeah...I know. But this ain't that. IMO.

But..to a hammer..all the world's a nail, I guess.

Also, First World World population is in decline..thank God. Educated women don't want to be baby machines.
That includes China and Japan...BTW.

Again, we have too many people of whatever color..let's feed, clothe, shelter and educate the folks we have.

That's not a simple numbers issue
At all.

LOL so Trump wants baby mills ?!?

So without putting too much thought into this

Wouldn't the people most likely to do this be
1. Poor
2. Poor and young

So wouldn't this contribute to societal problems by incentivizing childbirth for the wrong reasons? I mean are they offering $5,000 for each child, if so is there a cap, because maybe a healthy young person can have a child a year for 10 years and net $50,000

But then again, the average cost of having & raising a child until age 18 is

And what about the children that are already here?

It is exactly that. To some white people everything might be a nail, but in an administration with a white supremacist as top advisor, a VP who tells Europe to accept extremist politcal parties, a President moaning about white deaths in South Africa, and cutting anything that shows whites in a negative light, it is all too apparent. The world does not have too many people, far from it. There are vast expanses of open space all over the world.

And what about the children that are already here?

There is an ulterior motive here.
