The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has determined that the term 'politically correct' may now be emotionally harmful to some people.
UWM says 'politically correct' is no longer politically correct
"The phrase âpolitically correctâ is now a microaggression according to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The universityâs âJust Wordsâ campaign is the work of UWMâs âInclusive Excellence Centerâ and aims to âraise awareness of microaggressions and their impactââmicroaggressions like âpolitically correctâ or âPC.â
The university also claims the word âlameâ is a microaggression that somehow both âridicules and ignores the lives of amputeesâ and therefore shouldnât be used.
UWM also claims that using the phrase âthird worldâ to describe third world countries is a microaggression because it âreinforces heirarchical [sic] attitudes towards nations around the world, [and] establishes Westernized (industrialized) countries and cultures as the âstandardâ upon which to measure national well-being or economic status.â
