Venezuela's former presidential opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez has left for Spain in the wake of the South American country's contested election, Venezuelan and Spanish officials said on Saturday night after a day of rising diplomatic tensions.

Gonzalez, 75, who ran against President Nicolas Maduro in July, left after "voluntarily seeking refuge in the Spanish embassy in Caracas several days ago," Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez posted on Instagram.

It is good he was able to get out alive.

And Brazil is turning against Maduro, which is a positive development.

The problem is that Venezuela is a jungle country, and fighting in the jingle is difficult. Venezuela has Chinese support... it's going to be hard to isolate it.

That's actually a pretty significant development, and the Tremendous Nation of Brazil is far left as well. Could there be tension along the Venezuela-Brazil frontier like there was between the ultraliberal extremist states of Germany and the Soviet Union in 1939?

Yep. They are a left leaning country and they have more influence over Venezuela than any of other other neighboring countries

You can bet Kamala is watching with baited breath and taking notes.

The telling thing about Venezuela, as well as their communist allies in Cuba, is that both nations were thriving and among the wealthiest in Latin America with a huge middle class. Until the pinkos took over. Now they are destitute Heck Holes that people are fleeing when they get a chance.

That's exactly what the ultralibs want to do in America.

You don't believe Cuban and Venezuelan citizens want to live in free and prosperous countries, as opposed to Marxist dictatorships? And you see no problem with Russian and Chinese colonialism in the Western hemisphere? Apparently you're not a big fan of the Monroe Doctrine, are you?

I think they should be free to choose the Govt of their choice without being punished by the United States in the name of FREEDOM

I think out of all the hypocritical things the US does, this might be the biggest. We have bases in more than 55 countries, but China puts a few people in Cuba and we lose our minds.

Democracy in action seems to trigger you.

Not at all, this was, by most accounts, not democracy in action.

But given your devotion to Russia, I can see why you are now in here defending Maduro.
