This should be the House GOP position

The GOP plan should be enforce immigration laws on the books, including building of the fence that's already the law of the land. We shouldn't even talk about passing new immigration laws when we haven't enforced the old ones.

The Obama socialist cabal and mainstream media (I know, I repeat myself) lies about immigration.

I had to stop after that. Only a completly brainwashed, radical right wing idiot would start of story with garbage like that.

They have been lying about immigration, Obama and the dems have NO interest in any kind of border security.

Why pass laws that will never be enforced?
Does this mean we are no longer a Nation of Laws?
All this does is legalize illegal immigrants and it puts in place a perpetual motion of never ending illegals coming here.
I would like to know who put in the bill, that illegals are exempt from certain laws if they break them but American Citizens are still under those laws.
Senator Harry Reid's pork in the bill is ridiculous also.
What's up with this travel thingy that he slipped in? The Senator should have retired long ago.

I don't think it's possible to either make the border unpenetrable or end the 14th amend's definition of a citizen. However, it is possible to make it extremely unwise to hire a worker who does not possess 'papers,' and it is possible to have a database that makes it difficult to "share" papers.

The Conservative Plan for Immigration Reform

The Democrats are not and have not been interested in any kind of border security.

that's why the border security amendment won 67 votes in the Senate?

Wrong. What border securtiy? It got lip service

The fence is a joke, but assuming Wash was actually interested in securing the border, would it be legal for the fed govt to withhold medicaid or medicare dollars to hospitals that birth babies with mothers who are here illegally?

No it would not as it is illegal for those hospitals to turn those people away.

Really, that is a rather barbaric way to ‘solve’ the problem of anchor babies.

Blame your boy Reagan for that one.

I read that article and this is what I wrote underneath it in comments:

Someone has been slurping GOP Swil. This article reads as if it were written by an indoctrinated 12 year old. And remember, Romney's plan was to cut education in this country and bring in immigrants with degrees. I'm guessing because he thought his base simply wasn't able to learn the "hard stuff".

I didn't mean it in a barbaric sense. First, I assume we have the ability to drastically reduce the unemployment of undocumented aliens via technology and fines for employers ... assuming we have the will.

Eagle's original premise was to end birthright citzenship. I think that is impossible, as either the scotus would have to reverse itslef of we'd amend the const. However, if people couldn't easily find illegal employment, the only other reason for illegal immigration would be simply to give a baby US citzenship. I'm not sure this is so much a problem, but if it is, I don't see it as barbaric for the federal govt to choose to not facilite breaking the law.
