To much government control.Man Gets Prison Sentence For Collecting Rainwater On His Property

I agree with you on this one! Government needs to focus on anti-trust and getting jobs back here in America...This is just dumb.

Lesson for environmentalists: go green but not enough to call attention from the warehouse of big brother regulations. If the socialist empire gets on your case you will end up in jail no matter what the issue.

Matthew how do you feel about Obama opening the flood gates for US companies to move to Cuba? Just an aside. Was wondering how you felt about that.

I collect 200 gallons every time it rains...hope those nasty cops don't come and arrest me. Don't tell Taze me bro!

As I suspected - there is more to the story:

But Tom Paul, administrator of the Oregon Water Resources Department, claims that Harrington has been violating the state’s water use law by diverting water from streams running into the Big Butte River.

“The law that he is actually violating is not the 1925 provision, but it’s Oregon law that says all of the water in the state of Oregon is public water and if you want to use that water, either to divert it or to store it, you have to acquire a water right from the state of Oregon before doing that activity,” Paul told CNSNews.com.

Yet Paul admitted the 1925 law does apply because, he said, Harrington constructed dams to block a tributary to the Big Butte, which Medford uses for its water supply.

“There are dams across channels, water channels where the water would normally flow if it were not for the dam and so those dams are stopping the water from flowing in the channel and storing it- holding it so it cannot flow downstream,” Paul told CNSNews.com.

Oregon has the referendum process, why doesn't he get enough signatures and put the law to a State wide vote? Sounds like the best way to fix it to me.

We need to favor our businesses and make it very hard for them to want to move.

Thank you for the post, and I thought I had heard it all. So one of the wettest, as in rain precipitation in the country, states, now claims that rain water and snow melt, collected off a roof, on your property, belongs to the state, and one is not permitted by law to collect the rain water or snow melt. Is this the same state that pounds its chest about being so green? All along I thought California was nuts, Oregone takes the cake. No wonder the Southern part of the state and Northern California want to create the state of Jefferson.

they should but they want to eliminate jobs which is why they are sending them overseas for slave labor.as long as we have this corrupt one p arty system of demopubs and reprocrats and politicians that get away with crimes everyday we go to jail for, that will never change.

THIS is complete BULLSHIT! It needs to be fought and the government forced to back off on this one!

My property.
Rain on my property is MINE.
Trespass on MY property and get your ass shot!

I can see, partly, how daming the river/stream - even on your own property - could be a problem, though.

I'm very big on smaller government but Medford is almost on the southern border and inland. It is screaming fucking hot there all summer long. Any water diversion would get the natives restless I'm sure.

Sorry if it comes out of the sky and it lands on your property , it should be yours to use . How does any government think this is OK..

Not allowed to collect pollution water at your house, many states and local governments put laws in place so you would get your clean and government approved water at water treatment/monopoly run sites..
