Woke is to acknowledge the fact that racism, bigotry, and hate still exist, that the legacy of slavery, Black Codes, Jim Crow, and segregation continue to adversely affect Americans of color today, and that conservatives continue to seek to discriminate against and disadvantage Americans of color – Republicans undermining the right to vote and gerrymandering to the detriment of voters of color being examples of that.

Woke means to oppose rightwing racism, bigotry, and hate, it means to oppose conservatives seeking to discriminate against gay and transgender Americans, and it means to defend expressions of individual liberty and oppose the right’s desire to compel conformity and punish dissent.
