The US didn't turn the tide of the war with just air power we turned it will great naval victories and horrific land battled as we island jumped to the Japanese homeland. The ground battle was horrific.

I think the Pacific war was the first use of combined arms. All four branches contributed to defeating the Japanese. Surely the Navy played a large role of transporting troops and supplies and sinking the Imperial fleet.
