Trump: "A Tariff is a tax that doesn’t affect our country"

Ive worked with Unions and they milk the living hell out of jobs. You have to be reasonable and they went TOO FAR STICKING IT TO THE MAN.

I know. My dad worked at Ford. Those losers/idiots didn't do themselves any favors. Truth is, I don't thnk they were worth what they were being paid either. It's just that America was great when they were making that kind of money. We see what America turned into when we stopped paying so many uneducated blue collar factory rats so well.

They could have told the unions "look, you can't keep behaving this way. If you continue, you're going to force us to leave" "you MUST let us fire bad employees." And remember when they didn't have jobs for them, they sat them in a room for 8 hours a day and paid them 90% of their pay? That was too much to ask a company.

But don't forget to google Ford record profits and profit sharing 1999, 98,97,96, etc. Things were great till the Bush 2000's. He was sending all those great paying jobs overseas. So the middle class just kept getting worse and worse and worse. I believe his "good" economy was in hospitality industry which doesn't make up for good paying manufacturing jobs. Not even close.

And Auti manufacturing went to Southern States to escape Union labor costs.

The Unions got to damn GREEDY.

WE IN THE SOUTH TOOK THOSE JOBS
I'm okay with that. But I do notice now that you got those jobs, but they don't pay as well, you're all starting to unionize

The South has seen an increase in auto jobs in recent decades, with the region's share of auto jobs growing from 15% to 30% since 1990. Many foreign-owned auto companies have built manufacturing facilities in the South, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia. The South is attractive to these companies because of its low wages and history of being union-hostile. However, some say that the odds of unionization in the South may be changing. For example, in May 2024, employees at the Volkswagen manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee voted to join the United Auto Workers (UAW). This would be the first time since the 1940s that an auto plant in the South has unionized through an election.

And if ours gets too greedy they will leave here too.

And if ours gets too greedy they will leave here too.
Then we tariff them if they go out of the country. To sell cars in America, you got to make them here.

Too greedy? Don't forget the CEO's pays in the last 30 years went up 1322% and our pay only went up 18%.

When the CEO gets too greedy, workers legally organize. Despite your threats.

What they need is a President who's pro labor. Kamala is Trump is not. Although Trump does suggest he too would tariff them if they leave.

So you may as well stay and pay the American union workers what they are worth. Just pass it on to consumers. Do you think it matters to me if my F150 costs $55K or $57K? What's $2K over 3 years? $55 more a month?

If I had to go out and buy a new stove/dish washer/drier I don't know what they cost. Could be $5000 could be $7000. I really have no clue. So if it will cost an extra $400 to make it here in America, it's worth it for all of us to have it made here.

It doesn’t have to be paid for by you. It might only cut into ceo pay and profits. When trump started a trade war with China we had to pay more to import the machines from China and we couldn’t pass all that on to the customer.

And even if we did, I think ultimately it’s good for all of us if you either pay a tariff or buy an American competitor which is going to cost more than the Chinese version. Ultimately, it’s best for all if we buy American.

That’s what I said under gw bush so I should say the same now. Back then they asked me if I wanted to pay more for things. I said yes. People argued with me.

Notice republicans don’t talk about paying workers more. They talk about making things they buy cheaper.
Why is it best that I pay more for a washer or refrigerator?

If you are buying an American refrigerator from an American company who pays Americans an American wage, it's better for all of us.

And I don't know what you do for a living. Maybe you work for a company like this. So you may pay more for that washer but other people pay more for the butt plugs your company makes. So by those people paying more for your American made butt plugs, it means you make an American wage. So you can afford to pay more. See how everyone buying America benefits us all?

The only one it's not good for is you, the consumer. Of course for you and you alone, it's better that you pay less. You don't care about all those other things. You only care about you. And I don't blame you because everyone does it. When I went to Florida and saw the outlandish prices at Publix, suddenly I found myself at Walmart. LOL.

It's not better to buy items that reward inefficiency. It's socialism, is what that is.

But, I'll give the dems credit for figuring out the Old Weird Guy found a tax that maga likes. So, I can live with it IF the deficits fall, or at least rise less than the drain on general revenues from medicare and soc sec.

Hey, I'm for free trade too. We just need to protect our vital industries. Even if that rewards inefficiencies.

But refrigerators and washers are not vital industries. I'd argue they are no more than make work for Americans who produce shitty products that cost more.

But if workers are willing to pay more, that's fine. Just so long as we don't call the Old Weird Guy a republican.

No, he has not fixed it, but the situation has improved. It's not going to be fixed until the government gets over its spending addiction, which neither party is doing and neither presidential candidate is talking about.
So are you going to vote for a 3rd party candidate?

I buy Ford even though I'm told Toyota is better. Fuck Toyota

But I'll be honest. If I could see that Toyota was $50 less a month, maybe I'd buy a Toyota.

This is patently false. Either Trump doesn't understand basic economics or he's lying. No matter what he says, tariffs aren't paid by the other country. They're paid by you. In 2019, the Trump administration doled out billions in "free" money to farmers who could no longer sell their goods to China due to their retaliatory strike in buying American agriculture due to Trump's tariffs. I believe this is what MAGA calls "Socialism."

Fucking idiot

So are you going to vote for a 3rd party candidate?
That's a waste of a vote. I love it how Republicans voting for Trump get mad at us Democrats for not voting for RFK Jr. Dude, if you like him, you vote for him. But they won't. Not in a swing state.

This is EXACTLY how the founders intended th federal government to be funded

We all should be free to do what we want with our money (legally). But tariffs are taxes that maga supports because Trump lies to them that these taxes don't affect the economy. They do. They MAKE GOODS MORE EXPENSIVE.

But still, I'm willing to ignore Trump's lies about his economic "policy" if Harris is free to lie about her own "policies."

Unfortunately, this is true. The truth is that inflation came down from the ridiculous numbers it used to be but is not yet down to the level that the Fed wants to see. And sadly, nobody seems to care that the debt and deficits are growing larger by the day, fiscal sanity is nowhere to be found these days. Folks, we are in uncharted waters here and it's hard to predict when the bubble will pop.

However, I am quite sure that more tariffs are not the answer. For anything. And the thing is, the people who will be hurt the most are the people that will have to pay the higher prices that tariffs will bring, plus the consequences of foreign retaliation.

Well I don't want to be a flip flopper. In the 2000's I wanted tariffs so I should still want them now. But not on everything. Only things that are important. Things we want to keep here. Either that or give some companies tax breaks because we want them here. One or the other. Which do you prefer?

Do you want to give battery cars made in America a tax break or tariff Chinese battery cars?

But if maga is willing to pay higher prices, and afford less, it would seem to be good for inflation. Of course, you're right that both parties are spending our children to being .... Brits

Where do the feds want rates? 2%? What are rates now 2.8%? PFT.

No one cared about the debt when Trump was president so don't start now. Next time a Republican is president, let's see you republicans FOR ONCE care then. Show us you are sincere about caring about that.

Last time we had a Surplus was Clinton. Bush squandered it by giving the rich tax breaks and he lied us into Iraq. Let's roll back those tax breaks.

Today people told me that auto companies are leaving the north for the south. No tariffs. BUT, if those southern workers decide they want to form a union because the company isn't paying them fairly, then they can't go to Mexico. If they do, tariff them. Auto Manufacturing jobs are too important to America to send to Mexico and China.

Luckily for us Chinese and Mexican workers are starting to form unions.
