Trump's outrageous personal spending so far raising eyebrows

Trump’s 2018 budget proposal is unabashed in its goal: slashing or eradicating a number of social and research programs to offset new spending on defense and homeland security. That emphasis quickly met with broad criticism, including from some who pointed out an apparent contradiction. Trump places a heavy emphasis on cutting waste and targets for elimination programs that, in some cases, cost the government only a few million dollars a year. That is a lot of money in the context of the amount of money you or I spend in a year, but in the context of the government, spending a million dollars is like someone with a $50,000-a-year salary spending one penny.

What really jumped out at some people, though, was that Trump was proposing cuts to some relatively low-cost programs shortly before he prepared to fly to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. According to an analysis from Politico, that’s a trip that costs about $3 million each time — and it’s a trip that he’s made four times this year.

If that $3 million estimate is true, he could have funded the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness — budgeted at $4 million in 2016 — for nearly four years if he’d just stayed in the White House.

Others noted the cost of protecting first lady Melania Trump and the Trumps’ young son, Barron, at Trump Tower. Shortly after the election, a CNN Money report indicated that protecting Trump’s family in New York cost $1 million a day. If they instead joined him at the White House, of course, that cost would essentially be eliminated.

Combined, these costs could make Trump’s presidency awfully expensive, particularly in light of that proposed budget.

......Crookedest president imaginable, period.

btw, after whining for 8 yrs of Obama vacations this is definitely outrageos

Obama took NO vacations during his first 100 days, none

Just because their husband and father was elected as our President, does not mean that Mrs. Trump and Barron are condemned to confinement in Washington DC.

Maybe the family of Presidents shouldn't get SS protection, propose the law.

As far as the president himself visiting his various properties like Mar a Lago, they are his properties and everyone expects him to tend to them.

Politico is using obama trips to analyze Trump's weekends

Was Politico the site that fact checked the Russian salad dressing comment from Sean Spicer, or was that the equally leftist Politifact?

Trump's budget, specifically its increases in spending for our defense and military and the Homeland Security department, are reasonable and necessary steps to refuel a military that has been depleted in recent years, with aging equipment and a smaller force. His budget also keeps his promise not to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

BTW, that Politico figure is a mere estimate, not a precise number, and they got to it by using a report from last year regarding Obama's trips in 2013, which they say is similar to one Trump is going to take. Doesn't sound like a good metric to me.

am i the only one who would think the trumps all had private security prior to the election? they can all afford private security so why are they milking taxpayers.....\

Wrong. As the nominee for a major political party, the Republican Party, he was given Secret Service protection.

are you saying prior to this...trump did not have security....and i understand how the ss works....

Trump did have private security before the election, but that was in the early stages of his campaign, he later got Secret Service protection.

No one is "milking taxpayers" at all.

Sure, President Trump had his own security before entering the race, but so did Obama, President Bush and everyone else.

But once they enter high office, it is, By Law, provided to them. Part of the perks of the job.

Don't like it, change the law. But change it for everyone.
