Virginia defies Democratic Party lawsuit and purges 40,000 voters before election

Can you just imagine what the right wing would say if President Obama did anything remotely close to that?

You mean like having the IRS target your political enemies?

Heaven forbid

Yeah right?

Like when Charlie Rangel made the "radical" suggestion that the draft be reinstated and was subject to a tax audit by the Bush administration?

Or when the NAACP criticized the Bush administration for their policy and were audited?

President Obama should have fired those Bush appointees. But there are laws against that.

It looks to me like the IRS had little choice in auditing Charlie Rangel after the revelations made by the news media. He paid up since and he was the one breaking the tax laws and was fired from his position in the house as chairman of the tax writing committee.

And the NAACP audit was not initiated by George Bush.

In July 2008, the New York Times reported that Rangel rented four rent-stabilized apartments in a Harlem luxury building and used one of them as his campaign office. This arrangement appeared to violate New York State and City laws that require a rent-stabilized apartment to be used as one's primary residence. After the story broke, Rangel promptly moved the office from his apartment and filed an ethics complaint against himself.

But a few days later Rangel was back in the news. This time, the Washington Post reported that Rangel had used congressional stationery to solicit funds for his personal foundation from companies with business before his committee. In response, Rangel filed another ethics complaint ($) against himself. Rangel's foundation, the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service, garnered the nickname "Monument to Me" last year after he secured a $1.9 million earmark for it.

Then on Aug. 31, the New York Post broke the news that Rangel had failed to disclose income from renting his Caribbean villa. (The Post's photo of a dozing Rangel is an added bonus.) According to the Times' follow-up, Rangel failed to report the $75,000 in income not only on his congressional disclosure forms, but also on his state and federal income tax filings. What's more, Rangel hadn't paid interest on the villa's mortgage for 10 years. That loan was given to him by a company in which a donor to Rangel was a principal investor. Rangel pleaded ignorance on the loan terms and, once again, called for an ethics investigation ($).
In late November 2008 the troubles continued when the New York Post reported that for years, Rangel had taken advantage of a Washington, D.C., "homestead" tax break reserved for primary residents of the district. But Rangel's rent-stabilized NYC apartment also requires that it be used as a primary residence.

The next day, the New York Times reported that Rangel helped protect a Caribbean tax shelter for a company whose chief executive was a top donor to his foundation. Rangelvehemently denied the allegation that there was any connection.
According to news reports on Feb. 25, 2010, a House panel has found Rangel didn't properly disclose corporate funding of a trip to the Caribbean.

The IRS initiated an audit of the NAACP just one month before the 2004 presidential election and nearly three months before the end of the NAACP's tax year. The IRS refused to explain the basis of its investigation for more than a year. The NAACP learned the basis for the examination only after filing four Freedom of Information Act requests (FOIA).
The documents included complaints filed by Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), then-Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.), Reps. JoAnn Davis (R-Va.) and Larry Combest (R-Texas), then-Reps. Robert Ehrlich (R-Md.) and Joe Scarborough (R-Fla.) and political donor Richard Hug.

Nothing to do with ID. It's flat out suppression. Wish more Republicans were honest enough to admit it.

I wish at least ONE liberal leader was honest enough to admit that liberals are opposed to voter ID because they would lose a lot of fraudulent votes.

Personally, I'm not.

It would take alot of stress of the SSI system as well.

NID's should be issued and voting should be allowed on the web.

Voting should also be mandatory..like jury duty.
