Walgreens Changes Health Care Plan for 160,000 Workers Because of Obamacare | The Weekly Standard
In short, the move is to protect Walgreens from Obamacacre. “Rising health-care costs and a climate of change brought about by the new federal health law are prompting American corporations to revisit the pact they've long had with employees over medical benefits. … Aside from rising health-care costs, the company cited compliance-related expenses associated with the new law as a reason for the switch,” as the Wall Street Journal reports.

This is going to suck for the employees yet again ... Because of Obama the American people get screwed. Because if we did not have Obamacare these employees would still have the same healthcare they have prior to Obamacare

That can't be right. I was just assured that Obamacare was going to be a boon for the American worker and in 20 years no one would understand the fuss. All these stories of companies ending health insurance and individual premiums skyrocketing must be wrong.

what happened to you can keep your insurance , you can keep your doctor . Nothing will change because of Obamacare. Dont blame Walgreens they are going to give the employees what they paid into the insurance companies so they get the same amount of benefits but they are putting them into the Obamacare exchanges .. The prices WILL GO Up but now they wont have the group rates any longer so the patient pays more because of OBAMACARE and OBLAMO

Don't blame obama, blame the stupid people that voted for him. The worse part there are still mentally challenged people that still support this joke in cheif.

What happened to "Its not a tax??"

No. The only winners in the ACA are going to be those we taxpayers will be forced to subsidize.

Nothing the Govt sticks its big fat nose in is ever cheaper or better and we are going to find that out one more time.

You're missing the part about why they are doing it and how it is bad.

Employers always revisit things when changes are made. Walgreens did it in the 80's too.

What the Weekly Standard omits to mention in their article, is that this move will REDUCE health care costs for employees.

Are you smart enough to understand that paying less for healthcare is an improvement?

No.. the only thing that is ACTUALLY known is that it will reduce costs for the company.. it is unknown if the individual will save money and if they do save money if they will get the same level of coverage as they were under the employer plan.. Lest we forget that the taxes RAISE costing others MORE to SUBSIDIZE the government provided insurance

They employees are being moved to a private health insurance exchange, which means they will have far more insurance options from which to choose than they do now. Up to now, they have only had their employer's insurance offered to them. Now they will have a whole exchange from which to choose.

"You get to keep the insurance you have" is not always a good thing. In the case of Wallgreens, that would have meant staying stuck with their employer-sponsored take-it-or-leave-it insurance. Now that they are being offered more than one option is not a disadvantage. Not when they will end up better off with more choices.

What is not known is if Walgreens will continue to subsidize their employees health insurance as much as they do now. They will have to weigh the penalties they will incur if their employees end up in insurance that falls outside the cost limits set in ObamaCare against the cost of subsidizing their employees.

they will just cut down the employees hours and bundle with CVS on the other corner ;)

Sort of like in 2006 when Barry stated that "raising the debt ceiling over and over is a lack of leadership'" by republicans but now states that raising the debt ceiling, yet again, is the correct action and that "those who think that adding to the debt ceiling raises our debt are just uninformed"

Hypocritical piece of gutter trash.

Sonny, where I come from, paying less means getting less. Higher deductibles. Higher "out of pocket" expenses, less coverage for prescriptions, etc.

If paying 200 dollars a month, but paying 70% more for services seems like a good deal to you, then there isn't much I can do for you.

My suggestion to you? Quit drinking the Kool aid.

You do not have any indication that the move that Walgreens is making will result in lower quality plans. You have no idea whether out of pocket expenses will be higher. You are simply talking out of your ass. Where you come from, people must talk out of their asses.

No, ACTUALLY a lot about what they are doing is known.

"Employees will be eligible for plans costing as low as $5 a month..."
