You can stop trying to tell blacks that no republican was ever racist.
Clearly, the Greatest President EVAH!! FDR was a Republican, right? Parties switched sides so that makes FDR a Republican and Coolidge a democrat and math racist

Bull Connor was an asset to the Civil Rights movement

His violence and outward hate made it clear who the Good Guys were and who was evil

Why? Why not?

Bull Connor - Wikipedia was a historical figure that is useful for examination as to not let history repeat itself.
Any person then and now who demands that evaluation/judgment/treatment of people should be based on skin color is racist. That goes for those promoting Jim Crow laws or requiring people to be treated differently IN ANY WAY due to their skin color. That certainly applied to Bull Connor. And it applies to those now who require us to see skin color first and adjust our language, behavior, customs, traditions accordingly.

Republicans in the south were racists. So were northern Republicans.
Not true at all... Republicans were like they are today... pro business and being pro business surpasses any and all consideration of race... as long as a dollar could be made they wanted despite race color or creed to do business with you... why do you think they were willing to die over it?... republicans in the south were in the same boat... they had to play along with dems to get along but many of them actually aided in freeing slaves... now go back to your high school... if you even attended one and punch your history teacher in the nose....

What is the point of this thread? Is this historically racist human a racist? Yes. What is the additional point trying to be made?

In late breaking news, the use of powerful water hoses on protestors only seeking to achieve legal equality is also kind of racist.

Stay tuned for developments as this breaking story comes into greater focus.

Connor was the ultimate, classic racist; as a conservative he feared positive, beneficial change, sought to compel conformity and punish dissent, and perceived the end of segregation as a ‘threat’ to white Americans – Connor’s racism exists today among Republicans as expressed by white grievance politics and racist replacement theory.

Brother Minister Malcolm X was recounting a time he had prejudice against whites, but racist...? No sir.

There is no difference between "prejudice against whites" in this case and "racism against whites"

He was prejudiced against them because they were white, because of what he believed whites as a race did to him and other blacks. That's racism.

BS,

Not all Republicans were for racial equality. The Party had several factions in the beginning. One was the Radical Republicans. The Radical Republicans were for the eradication of slavery. They were not conservatives.

During the Civil War period, Radical Republicans had great power and were able to get initiatives passed providing blacks with civil rights. The pressure from Radical Republicans was responsible for creating the14th Amendment and the implementation of the Reconstruction Acts over President Johnson’s veto. These two actions allowed protection to the newly freed blacks.

The influence of the Radical Republicans was gone once reconstruction ended, and the republican party began to turn away from issues affecting blacks. Southern white Republicans resented that the party had become the “black folks party” to use the kindest description, and felt that they needed to gain support from southern whites to become national. As blacks gained power and started winning elections, white resistance increased, and as a result, there was a backlash against southern black republicans called the lily-white movement.

“The lily-white movement was an all-white faction of the Republican Party in the Southern United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It battled and usually defeated the biracial element called the Black-and-tan faction.

During Reconstruction, following the U.S. Civil War, black leaders in Texas and around the country gained increasing influence in the Republican Party by organizing blacks as an important voting bloc. Conservative whites attempted to eliminate this influence and recover white voters who had defected to the Democratic Party. The effort was largely successful in eliminating African-American influence in the Republican Party leading to black voters predominantly migrating to the Democratic Party for much of the 20th century.

The term lily-white movement was coined by Texas Republican leader Norris Wright Cuney, who used the term in an 1888 Republican convention to describe efforts by white conservatives to oust blacks from positions of Texas party leadership and incite riots to divide the party. The term came to be used nationally to describe this ongoing movement as it further developed in the early 20th century, including through the administration of Herbert Hoover. Localized movements began immediately after the war but by the beginning of the 20th century the effort had become national. This movement is largely credited with driving blacks out of the Republican party during the early 20th century, setting the stage for their eventual support of the Democrats.”

Stop lying about the Repuvblican party.
I believe that you could count the number of people in both the democratic and republican parties in the 1860s who believed in racial equality without taking off your shoes. Essentially no one believed that black, brown, red or yellow people were equal to whites. But you refuse to admit that because it would make your endless rants about how racist whites are meaningless. Whites have come a long way since the civil war. White attitudes are far more open about racial equality than in those days. Do some whites dislike blacks? Of course, just like some blacks dislike whites. No one can mandate the opinions of people; we can just control their actions in violation of laws. It's not illegal to think someone is a piece of crap, it's only illegal to act on that opinion if they are a member of a protected class.
