WHO is snubbing Thatcher???

Margaret Thatcher's funeral is not an official state occasion

Obama won't attend Thatcher funeral. But neither will former presidents Clinton and both Bushes.

It appears that protocol has a lot to do with the absence of big names from the US attendee list. Margaret Thatcher's funeral is not an official state occasion, despite the military trappings and the presence of her majesty, the Queen. So technically, although they've all been invited, US presidents, as former and present heads of state, would be attending representing themselves and not the nation.

George HW Bush is in frail health and can't travel, much like 93 year old Nancy Reagan. George W. Bush is recovering from back surgery. Those aren't "snubs". A snub is when you are perfectly able to go but choose not to. That's the Clintons.

obama is an entirely different story. As head of state, if he chooses not to waste his time over this old white woman, as a head of state, he should send an envoy. Head's of state do not turn down invitations. They send a representative. Big Moo went to the funeral of a girl in Chicago to represent the royal family. That's an envoy. Although I understand. The Moo used the occasion to compare herself to the murdered girl. Having no accomplishments, Moo could hardly compare herself to Baroness Margaret Thatcher.

Bush, Jr. is healthy, why didn't he go?

comparing presidents not in office to the current president is the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

perhaps you still want to allow bush and clinton to control our military?

thats what i thought.

that said, i don't think obama needs to go, however, he should have sent someone in his current administration.

Do you really think that if the US needs assistance in the future the Brits are going to say," We would help you but Obama didn't go to Thatchers funeral." Non-issue we have bigger fIsh to fry.

George W. Bush Underwent Back Surgery: Report

He had back surgery several months ago.

The 43rd president and his wife, Laura, spent the entire month of January in Florida so Bush could recuperate from the surgery and take in some spring-training baseball.
These sources say Bush’s doctors told him to give up golf until his back healed, but he managed to sneak in some chipping and putting in Florida and has now been seen back on the links at a Dallas country club.

President Obama has shown himself to be exactly what he is. A political hack from Chicago. He should have sent representatives of his current administration.

Tacky, tacky, tacky.....

The guest list included all 32 members of the current British Cabinet and 30 former members of Lady Thatcher's Cabinets from her premiership from 1979 to 1990.

The presence of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh effectively elevated the occasion to a state funeral.

International guests included 11 serving Prime Ministers from across the globe and 17 serving Foreign Ministers. In total 170 countries were represented.

:eusa_whistle:

Prime ministers past and present joined world leaders, former Cabinet colleagues and some of the key figures who played a role Lady Thatcher's downfall more than two decades ago.

Political friends and foes were among the 2,300 mourners who came together to mark the passing of the longest serving Premier for 150 years.
