The Ds are going to the mattresses over the border wall but blocking and therefore reducing illegal Immigration is not a threat to their existence as a national party. Are there threats to the survival of the Democratic party? Yes, several.
Skilled workers, small firms and effectively all of their tax base is headed for the state line to be replaced by companies extorting tax breaks from them.
The lack of after tax income growth in D states relative to that of R states has led to a massive labor shortage in most R states v. no or low labor shortage in nearly all D states. D states with a huge draw like HI, CA and NY are doing reasonably well. But R states like FL with Disney World and Daytona; TN with Nashville and Memphis or AL with Huntsville, the Gulf and Lake Martin are pulling a lot of high paying jobs from D states.
Southern states in particular have fewer problems with infrastructure because of a lot less rock salt and other cold weather problems. The great plains have lots of relatively flat land and low population density making them the best place to build high speed rail cheap. So when the next infrastructure bill is passed the Ds will generally get less benefit than the Rs, despite getting roughly the same amount of money per capita
So, why are the Ds ignoring these survival threats?
