Why?

Best I can figure -- it's because it's too hard for journalists to understand and explain. To most Americans it's just some form of Hogwart's magic arts.

In my lifetime, I have seen the average publishing journalists knowledge of science go from sad to absolutely pitiful. A degree in journalism should require at least first year classes in all the basic sciences. Given the influence of science and technology on our lives, you cannot report accurately on science with anything less.
