In the 21st Century there's no excuse for incompetent local govts to be PRINTING precinct rolls. There should be a private network that connects to the database for the approved voter rolls and a poll worker simply SEES your "photo ID" on their monitor. Anyone believing the corrupt officials in sanctuary cities harboring illegals would break federal law by hiding them but wouldn't also hand them a ballot to vote should probably check in for a lobotomy. This past election since there were numerous reports from nearly every state claiming voter fraud across the country, shouldn't more stringent measures be enforced to control this from happening?

If there is no way to get control and deport illegals holed up in predominately blue areas that continue to harbor them, then at the very least these sanctuary cities should be excluded from the voting process in upcoming elections until they can agree to abide by federal law. Beyond that, voter ID's should be required in all poll places. Maybe since most pollsters probably don't look at ID's good enough, the best way to get a handle on voter fraud which is no doubt rampant, each voter should have to undergo a thumb or eye scan when casting their vote. Also databases should be connected all across the U.S. to ensure people aren't voting multiple times using numerous addresses.

I don't inherently have a problem with the finger scan idea. What I do have a problem with is a mode of securing the integrity of the vote that also puts an imposition of any sort on a voter. For example:

• Requiring a state issued ID to vote --> No. One is a citizen with a right to vote regardless of whether one has seen fit or need to get a state issued ID. Were a person to opt to fend for themselves in the wilderness and not live a "city" lifestyle as you and I do, that's their choice. I don't want to live that way, but I'm not going to prohibit another from doing so. Living that way, I know one has no need for a state issued ID card. What would you do with it? Show it to approaching bears and raccoons?
  
  Is that an "extreme" situation? Yes, it is, but one's right to vote does not depend on how many standard deviations away from "normal" be the reality of a citizen's lifestyle. For a right such as voting, a citizen's free choice about how they live mustn't be obliged to accommodate or conform to the state's desire to secure the integrity of the voting process. The state needs to find a way to accommodate the citizen. That could be as simple as having an exception procedure for people presenting themselves to vote and of who, by the person's attestation, polling station managers undertake a different way of dealing with the identity aspect. I can't say exactly what is the solution for that dilemma, but I do know there needs to be one.

I also don't have a problem with people who have state issued IDs using them to ID themselves as the voter they claim to be. I have a problem with being required to have such in order to vote. Thus, as long as a state has exception processes that allow folks who haven't a state issued ID to also vote, fine.

So if the bio scanning approach can be implemented such that it doesn't make someone do something they otherwise are unwilling or unable to do, I'm okay with it. I don't cotton to and won't support anything that makes people "jump though hoops" to exercise their right to vote. I feel that way because one's vote is the "speech" one makes that commences the process wherein the nature and extent to which all other rights are protected,lost, altered, etc. One's vote is one's seminal form of self expression. It's perhaps (I'd have to think about it longer to be sure) the only thing of which I'd say the nation needs to indulge a citizen's eccentricity and not the other way round.
