MENLO PARK, Calif., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined several steps the social media giant is undertaking as it faces withering criticism about the role fake news stories spread on the site played in the run-up to the presidential election.
In a post on his Facebook page Friday night, Zuckerberg said "we take misinformation seriously."
"Our goal is to connect people with the stories they find most meaningful, and we know people want accurate information. We've been working on this problem for a long time and we take this responsibility seriously. We've made significant progress, but there is more work to be done," he said.
Reports by mainstream media outlets like newspapers and television networks have exposed the high number of fake or misleading news stories being passed off on Facebook, often by websites with official-sounding names and the appearance that the sites are legitimate news outlets. Except in many cases, the stories are not true. They do, however, serve as click-bait for readers who are then exposed to the site's advertising along with the misinformation, generating revenue for the site itself while fooling the reader into thinking the news is real.

Good to hear, but a little too late. The fake news epidemic on Facebook proved to be detrimental to lazy, stupid, drooling conservatives who believed all of it and were too stupid to fact check the fake news they bought, hook line and sinker and as a result, voted for an unqualified, fascist, misogynist, racist, raping orange cheeto, and now we're all screwed.
Thanks Mark! 'Preciate the hard work you put it into it over the past 18 months, douchebag!
