13 year old killed in accidental shooting

A small price to pay for our second amendment rights......guns make us safer

Less then 800 accidental killings by firearms a year. Over 35000 by motor vehicle. I wonder which is worse?

Well there are over 200 million licensed drivers who use their cars daily. There are about 70 million gun owners who use their guns for target practice or hunting a few times a year. The fact those numbers are so close given the hours of use of each shows how dangerous guns are.

With 300 million guns in circulation, some kids are going to end up dead

But we need our guns to keep us safe

Yes it's a good thing this child had an armed relative to keep everyone safe.

Eli Estrada, 13, was shot at a home in Collinsville on Sunday when a relative's gun accidentally discharged. He was taken to the DeKalb County Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Notice the article doesn't give details how this happened. So here's the likely scenario. The owner of the weapon let the child handle it, and imitating something he saw on tv joking put it to his head and squeezed the trigger.

Or,

The owner of the weapon was 'showing off' the weapon to the 13 year-olr, jokingly saying you better behave or else pointing the weapon at him and squeezed the trigger.

Bottom line is, this couldn't have happened without the victim or someone else pointing the weapon towards him/himself and squeezing the trigger. Guns don't discharge randomly according the Uncertainty Principle. They only go off when you squeeze the trigger while pointing them at someone.

In this day and age it's impossible to envision a scenario where a weapon 'accidentally' discharged. Everyone knows what guns are, what they do, and what happens if you point the business-end at another person and squeeze the trigger.

There are no gun accidents. Only deliberate acts lied about.

Somebody was negligent and should be prosecuted.

320 million people in the USA , people die of one thing or the other everyday . Sorry the kid is dead but things happen .

According to the CDC in 2013 only 505 people were killed in accidental gun deaths...which is an amazing number showing how careful the gun owning public actually is...considering there are over 320 million people in the country with over 320 million guns in private hands and over 90 million homes with guns in them and over 11.1 million gun owners who carry their guns for self defense every day......

And only 505 accidental deaths...that truly is amazing and shows how seriously American gun owners take that responsiblity.....

That is why the gun sites I read never call them accidents...they call them "Negligent Discharges" which is closer to the truth....

It's a lot given how little guns are actually used. I'd like to see it continue to go down.
