The GOP Conventrion 2024

The speakers, delegates, and officials for the 2024 Republican National Convention began arriving in Milwaukee today. Due to the attempted assassination on President Trump's life yesterday, the atmosphere and tone is likely to be very changed as many media organizations seem to be revamping their original plans.

President Trump considered postponing for a couple of days due to his injury but reconsidered and decided to stay on the original schedule. He too arrived in Milwaukee this evening. Should be an interesting four days.
Large-scale Circle-Jerk... like most conventions, on either side of the aisle... a Rubber Stamp Factory... :stir:

One of the more interesting speeches from the Convention Monday night:

Model and television personality Amber Rose delivers a speech endorsing former President Donald Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention.
Transcript:
AMBER ROSE: My name is Amber Rose. I'm a model and entrepreneur. Thank you.

But most importantly, I'm a mother. My whole world revolves around providing for my children, keeping them safe, and giving them an opportunity for a better life. That's something that unites all American parents, whether we're Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, or liberals.

We all want a better country for our children. But I'm here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, that the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States. Now, you may be wondering why I'm up here telling you this.

I'm no politician, and I don't want to be. But I do care about the truth. And the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump.

I know this because for a long time, I believed those lies. So I'm here to set the record straight. The first person I knew who supported Donald Trump was my father.

I was shocked. My entire family is racially diverse. And I believe the left-wing propaganda that Donald Trump was a racist.

My father said, no, he's not, Amber. What are you talking about? And when I insisted, he said, prove it. So to prove my father wrong, I did my research and looked into all things Donald Trump.

People have to do their research. I watched all the rallies, and I started meeting so many of you, his red hat wearing supporters. I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don't care if you're black, white, gay, or straight.

It's all love. And that's when it hit me. These are my people.

This is where I belong. So I let go of my fear of judgment, of being misunderstood, of getting attacked by the left, and I put the red hat on, too. Thank you.

Love you, too. I never felt more free and more love for my country than I do now. I want to thank my father, who's in the audience tonight, for opening my eyes.

He served over 20 years in the U.S. military. Thank you for your service, Dad. I love you so much.

Thank you. When I met the president and Melania for the first time, he was kind and generous and funny as hell. Very funny.

The first lady was gracious and smart, with a smile that will brighten up any room. If you're watching this tonight, you know our country is in trouble. Just like me.

When you go to the store and buy food for your family, you're shocked. When you fill up your gas tank, you're pissed. I know I am.

And when you turn on the news, you are just exhausted. Inflation is out of control, and you know in your heart it was not like this under Donald Trump. My message to you tonight comes from a humble place.

The left told me to hate Trump, and even worse, to hate the other side, the people who support him. When you cut through the lies, you realize the truth. American families were better when Donald Trump was president.

We were safer, wealthier, and stronger. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote to put money back in our pockets and good food on our kids' plates. Yes.

Or, as Trump would say, it's a vote to make America great again. Thank you so much.

Again one of the things that makes a person go 'hmmm' was last night when Tucker Carlson and President Trump warmly gripped hands in a brief exchange.

And I thought: Could Tucker be Trump's Press Secretary? Now THAT would be interesting :)

And this RCP take on five reasons Vance was the perfect VP pick included one I hadn't thought of: A debate between JD Vance and Kamala Harris might be the mismatch of the Century eclipsing even the recent Trump/Biden debate. :)

I'm really looking for reasons to get excited about Vance being VP and I just might be coming around. :) (Okay this might not exactly be RNC Convention coverage but I bet it comes up at some point.)

The first day was quite impressive…there really is a cross section of the population at this event

My favorite speaker of the night remains Tim Scott.
Biggest and most sustained applause of the night was when Trump and Vance entered the arena--neither spoke formally tonight.

Biggest surprise of the night was Sean O'Brien addressing the RNC Convention tonight, the first Teamster President to do so in the 121 history of the organization. He stopped short of endorsing Trump but certainly left the door open to do so.

One thing I noted was Tucker Carlson, sans coat and tie, greeting President Trump and warmly gripping hands for a brief interchange. And I thought hmm. Trump's Press Secretary? Nobody would ever miss a press conference :)
I watched it first on Scripps News Service then when speakers started talking, Scripps decided we wanted to listen to Scripps and not the speakers. I got angry. I figured it was on other channels and changed to CBS. Just in time to hear 90 percent of Sean O'Brien's speech. I got the gist from his talk he will support Trump. CBS O'Donnell acted as if he sold out Democrats and she talked as if she could not believe what he said. She was in my view, upset at him. She talked down Republicans talking as if we republicans are the enemy of unions in general. It depends on what Unions want if we back them or not.
I don't like CBS but this time at least I got to hear the union mans words. Clearly he was not endorsing Democrats or Biden.

O'Brien stopped short of an endorsement of Trump but he certainly left the door open for that. Just think, the first Teamster President to address a Republican convention in the 121 year history of that union.

I'm watching most of the speeches on Cspan as the hosts there don't think they are more interesting than the speakers. Haven't checked out RSBN for streaming as I've been able to watch our big screen TV for all of it so far, but they likely are allowing us to hear more of the speakers too if they are covering the convention.

We want the best for the USA Republic. You want what some ancient Greeks wanted in Government. We have no democracy nor have we had one, yet.

Thanks for those comments and for reminding me to watch CSPAN.

Okay question for everybody:

President Trump is 6'3" tall. All the Google references I've seen have JD Vance at 5'7" tall, i.e. an 8 inch difference.

But observing them at the convention last night, they seem to be roughly the same height as it appears in most photos. Explanation anyone?

Early on it was reported that Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley would not be speaking at the Convention but they are both on the speakers' list.
That speech by South Dakota's fine Governor was a barn burner. Kristi Noem was powerful. She in my view easily could be the president after Trump serves the next 4 years.

They are about the same height. Both men are as tall as pro football players and many basketball players.

I really like Kristy too and she would have been an excellent VP pick. If she just hadn't put that stupid story about killing her dog in her book. . .it provided just enough poison and there wasn't enough time to distance her from it to make her a viable candidate probably. She might not have been the pick anyway but as her term as governor is up in 2027, unless she can run again, she might make a good pick for the administration in some important capacity. But yes, her speech was good.

So where is Melania taken from another thread today. Well, she is at the Convention or will be. She is not on the official speaker's list, but I won't be surprised if she doesn't speak anyway. It is rumored that could be tonight following Nikki Haley. We'll see.

Melania's official statement following the assassination attempt (and due to the entirely different style and tone than we see in most Trump press releases, I am certain she wrote it herself):

She isn't in hiding though she isn't a publicity seeking narcissist either. She is/will be at the Convention and though is not listed on the slate of speakers, it is rumored she indeed will speak, maybe tonight immediately following Nikki Haley.

Her public statement following the assassination attempt, and because the wording and phraseology is so different from most Trump press releases, I am confident she wrote it herself:

I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans.

We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one.

When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change. I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband.

To the families of the innocent victims who are now suffering from this heinous act, I humbly offer my sincerest sympathy. Your need to summon your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me.

A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion - his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration. The core facets of my husband’s life - his human side - were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times.

Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love. Our personal, structural, and life commitment - until death - is at

We are all humans, and fundamentally, instinctively, we want to help one another. American politics are only one vehicle that can uplift our communities. Love, compassion, kindness and empathy are necessities.

And let us remember that when the time comes to look beyond the left and the right, beyond the red and the blue, we all come from families with the passion to fight for a better life together, while we are here, in this earthly realm.

Dawn is here again. Let us reunite. Now.

This morning, ascend above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence. We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends. We can realize this world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships again.
I am thinking of you, my fellow Americans.

The winds of change have arrived. For those of you who cry in support, I thank you. I commend those of you who have reached out beyond the political divide – thank you for remembering that every single politician is a man or a woman with a loving family."

Ahh the old dog story. Kristi was a child then. The dog attacked way too many for her to have put up with it. TX will kill a man who was not in the room where the victim was murdered. After 6 PM TX time they turn off the lights, the party is over on Gutierrez.
Texas is doing worse than Kristi did when she removed from circulation a mad dog.

She still would not be in the position she is in if she had left that out of her book, most especially how she told the story, i.e. without regret or remorse or any emotion other than dislike for the dog. Brutally honest and could have been any of us, but a slip up for sure in how it would be perceived and portrayed in the media. She is unlikely to make such a mistake ever again, but it is what it is and cannot be removed from the record now.

You and I may allow people a mistake, misspeak, error, sin now and then recognizing that we all fall short at times. We think a person's entire track record should be utilized to do evaluations. But those who judge and evaluate based on politics and/or emotion are incapable of doing that.
