and do ok at the 1000 yd matches, too. for the latter, they use 26" barrels, 1 in 6.5" rifling twist and 90 gr vld Berger hpbt match bullets, started at almost 2800 fps from those long barrels. every inch of barrel adds 30-40 fps, did you know that? those LONG bullets still have 1200 fps left at 1000 yds, which is 270 ft lbs, same as a .38 snub has at 10 ft, using plus p ammo. it's NOT going to just "bounce off", believe it.
