A chart of unemployment and recession for 50 years

Fact, the UE rate goes down because it counts people who give up looking for work. Often that number is a lot larger than the amount of people who actually get a job, IE 80k jobs created in a month yet magically the UE rate drops despite that being an impossibility unless you double count the 300,000k people that droped out of the labor force.

The overall UE rate, that is to say people not working is getting worse, thanks to Obama.

Fact.

Government Unemployment Rate Drops Again--to 3.3%
May 3, 2013 – While overall unemployment remained largely unchanged in April at 7.5 percent, the rate for government workers continued to improve, dropping to 3.3 percent.
The unemployment rate for civilian government workers dropped to 3.3 percent in April from 3.6 percent in March, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate has dropped a half percentage point since February. In March, there were 786,000 unemployed federal, state and local governments in the United States. In April, that declined by 71,000 to 715,000.

In July 2012, the unemployment rate for government workers was as high as 5.7 percent, according to the BLS, and the rate has been in a steady decline since. The current unemployment for government workers at 3.3 percent is the lowest rate since April 2011. In April there were 20,269,000 total government workers in the U.S.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts someone as a government worker if they are not in the military and they are currently employed by any level of government—local, state or federal—or they are unemployed, they are looking for work, and their last job was for any level of government. Overall, unemployment dropped slightly to 7.5 percent, with payrolls adding 165,000 jobs.

9.5 Million People Have Left the Workforce Under Obama
May 3, 2013 – 9.5 million Americans have left the workforce during the presidency of Barack Obama, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In April, the total number of Americans counted as "not in the labor force" declined for the first time since December, but that number was still near a record high at 89,936,000. Those not in the labor force declined by 31,000, from a record high of 89,967,000 in March. That broke the recent record of 89,304,000 not in the labor force in February of this year.

Since February 2009, the first full month of Obama’s presidency, 9,549,000 people have left the labor force. There were 80,387,000 Americans not working that month, compared with 89,936,000 not working or looking today, according to the latest economic release from BLS.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) labels people who are unemployed and no longer looking for work as “not in the labor force,”and that includes people who have retired on schedule, taken early retirement, or simply given up looking for work. In the 50 months since Obama has been in office, the number of people counted as not in the labor force has declined 16 times.

I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble finding a point here. First are you asserting a connection between the sequester which has resulted in furloughs of workers and the unemployment rate? If so state it.

Since February 2009, the first full month of Obama’s presidency, 9,549,000 people have left the labor force. There were 80,387,000 Americans not working that month, compared with 89,936,000 not working or looking today, according to the latest economic release from BLS.

This appears to be the childish drivel that a President controls economic performance from day one. Use of this canard automatically disqualifies you from being taken seriously.

I congratulate you on understanding the meaning of BLS statistics (an uncommon accomplishment on this board!) and hope you will continue with that effort by gaining some further understanding of how they are used.

That right there is 6 million jobs. Either moved overseas or blocked because Republicans block investment in Education.

And yet, it's Obama's fault. Gawd how they hate that guy. Why? Because he won't take responsibility for their fucking mess?

This is true, and it makes sense to not count those who aren't looking for work. If I retire why would you count me as part of the labor force when attempting to calculate unemployment rate?

The overall UE rate, that is to say people not working is getting worse, thanks to Obama.

Fact.
Obama is responsible for demographics?

here is a list of the peopel who were president the year before each recession.

Recessions dont just materialize out of no where.

In the year before they are charted you see signs of a slipping economy and a good president takes wise steps to they and avert it or to make it shallow.

the year before is a little but of insight.

heres the list.

1960: Ike

1969: Nixon

1974: Ford

1979: Carter

1981: Reagan

1990: Bush 41

2000: Clinton

2007: Bush 43

Now there is no way to make the economy recessionless completely but do you see a pattern?

Ford

Reagan

Bush 43

all had a recession at least a year into their terms that lasted longer than a year except Bush who LEFT his massive recession to obama to clean up AFTER he created it.

all about a year and a half.

The one you guys dont lke much which is Bush 41 managed to keep his recession to a years length.

He raised taxes to do it and you hated him for it.

Go look at how Nixon handled his recession.

it wasnt by cutting taxes and gutting government.

Your ideas are historically failed ideas righties

We need to print more money...
We need to raise taxes to at least 97%....just for starters just to kick things off.
We need to borrow money from every country out there.

Then we need to hire everyone that isn't working to a government job....

We will be in good shape then.....

Right?...
Right?....

its not the lefts fault your too stupid to understand the world and its reality

The overall UE rate, that is to say people not working is getting worse, thanks to Obama.

Fact.

It's a wonderful thing that when simple, clear categorical facts are presented, there is always someone so blinkered and partisan that they will claim the opposite is true on the basis of blind faith.

Fact.

Obama must have a strong stomach to cross the aisle to try to work w/ them

Those so inclined to FAITH BASED non-thinking refuse to see anything that does not jibe with their prejudices, TM.

You know that from bitter experience here, no doubt.

Tell us how Reagan inherited a terrific economy and promptly plunged it into recession
