America's most gerrymandered congressional districts

Left wing blog zombies need to get better sources than the NY Times. The North Carolina 12th district was created from scratch by the democrat majority during the Clinton administration after the 1990 census and is the most laughably gerrymandered district in the US. It even looks lake a salamander.

The 1st district was also a Federal requirement. Drawn to provide a black majority. So NC is down to JUST one supposed republican gerrymander.

I notice it does not mention that the 12th was drawn by the force of federal law? You know the one that stretches like 80 miles to give a black majority. It snakes along a major highway and is absolutely illegal under North Carolina law but the feds made it stick.

Galled you, did it?

Yeah...But you lefties scream bloody murder when the GOP draws districts, don't you?
Fucking hypocrites. All of you..
Oh and BTW, who controls the MD legislature? And why are you bitching about GOP districts?

Maryland votes 60% Democrat anyway, about the same percentage as Oklahoma does for Republicans. Only in Maryland the Republicans won 1 district, in Oklahoma the Democrats won zero.

In North Carolina the Democrats WON the popular vote for the House...and yet only won four out of 13 districts.

At best..the Maryland Democrats Gerrymandered themselves 1 competitive-leaning GOP seat into 1 safe Dem seat. In North Carolina the Republicans literally Gerrymandered a full 3 seats away from the Democrats.

"In North Carolina the Democrats WON the popular vote for the House...and yet only won four out of 13 districts."
That is true but not accurate. Democrat voting base is located in urban districts which make up just over half of the state's population.
For example, the counties of Mecklenburg, Gaston, Buncombe, Forsyth, Guilford, Durham and Wake contain half of the people in NC.. That's 7 of the State's 100 counties.
And again. democrats controlled the NC legislature and the governor's office for over 100 years. When dems drew districts to favor themselves, no one complained. When the GOP draws districts, lefties have a shit fit.
As long as districts like NC 12 exist, you lefties should just keep your mouths shut.

Show me a year when the Democrats lost the popular vote in NC yet held a majority of congressional house districts (let alone 9 out of 13)

The article says there are only 3 Gerrymandered districts in NC. And I just showed 2 of them were mandated by the US Government not republicans. That means even if the republicans gerrymandered they only did so in a single district which was already a Democratic stronghold.

America?s most gerrymandered congressional districts

2. Three of the 10 most-gerrymandered districts are in North Carolina.
North Carolina Republicans really outdid themselves in 2012. In addition to the 12th district, there's the 4th, which covers Raleigh and Burlington and snakes a narrow tentacle all the way south to pick up parts of Fayetteville. And then there's the 1st District, which covers a sprawling arbitrarily shaped region in the northeastern part of the state. All three of these seats were won by Democrats in 2012.
Overall, the North Carolina GOP's efforts paid off handsomely. Based on their statewide vote share you'd expect North Carolina Democrats to hold about seven seats. But they won only four. This is because an outsized share of the state's Democratic voters were shunted off into the three highly-gerrymandered districts above.

But as the white population becomes a minority to blacks and Hispanics in the next couple of years, it will be more and more difficult for GOP statehouses to carve out their safe congressional seats. If the GOP was smart it would start an aggressive campaign right now to reach out to these segments of society, instead of holding up immigration reform and alienating African Americans.

Will it happen?

The neo confederate bible thumping crackers in charge here in NC days are numbered
Racist jerk.
In fact, you're reported to the mods. Racism is not permitted here

That's completely ridiculous...you don't think it's at all possible the GOP took advantage of those Majority-Minority districts and just packed in as many African Americans as possible into them???? Further only the 1st district has a majority of blacks...so your claims are false.

Single districts are not gerrymandered by themselves..the state as a whole is. By packing all the democratic voters into 3 districts it makes many of the 9 GOP districts relatively safe in effect. Your claim is absurd.

No, most of their platform is built on fear of THOSE people.
Are you fucking kidding....Wealthy limousine liberals have been referring to us as THOSE people for centuries.

First off, the dems SUED to have those districts drawn. They had to split up counties just to get those districts drawn.
The dems did not like the fact that NC law prohibited counties from being split up.
The other claim by the dems who by the way prevailed in their suit, was that democrats voters were being....wait for it......packed into certain districts.....Funny thing was that democrats were the ones drawing the districts.
Finally, there is no one who can control where people live. Rural districts, and NC just happens to be a generally rural state, is where conservative voters reside.
Both sides will draw districts to give themselves a political advantage.
I find it ironic you lefties are bitching. However, I see the narrative developing here. You're all pissed off because your side lost the US House and you want it back....By any means necessary.
The hypocrisy arrives when you claim all is right with the world when the dems control Congress...

The GOP won the House with the most criminal gerrymandering this nation has ever seen. They make the Left's gerrymandering look amateurish.

Everyone knows they had a 3 part goal starting in the 80s. First seize the House and then gerrymander it to death. Second make voting harder for blacks, old people and college students. This is done partly with fake news stories about voter fraud, but also by limiting early voting and starving poor neighborhoods of voting machines (leading to impossibly long lines in 2004 in places like Columbus so they could steal Ohio). Third, create a think tank/media network from AEI to Limbaugh and FOX, all of which are paid to convince poor people that their government has been stolen by a shadowy liberal, socialist, atheist, gay demon.

The strategy has worked. The game is over. The wealthy have all the money and the poor don't make enough in wages to survive without going into life destroying debt. But it gets worse: the poor have been conditioned to blame government rather than wealthy special interests that own it. Big Pharma, Big Oil and the Koch brothers literally staff government through aggressive election funding . . . but they never get blamed for the actions of their puppets.

Hey knucklehead. Districts only change every 10 years. At that point the state legislature redraws the districts based on many factors. The primary one is whichever party controls the state legislature gets the choice of how districts are made up. Also, When the US Census is finalized, the potential for adding or subtracting a district exists. At that point the majority party in the state legislature redraws the districts.
Your point is moot. NC is a majority GOP state. The dems own the urban areas and the GOP has the rest.
We could go round and round on every state.
Shit, Upstate NY Voters have absolutely NO SAY in presidential elections because the majority of the votes are in the NY Metro area which invariably goes democrat.
So what the fuck are you complaining about?
I see what's going on here.
You lefties are pissed off because you lost the US House and do not see getting it back any time soon. So you are bitching that the rules of the game are unfair.

In all the years that the Democrats won a majority of the House districts in NC...they won seats within proportion to their popular vote +/-3%.

In 2012 the GOP won SIXTY NINE PERCENT (69%) of the seats with FORTY EIGHT (48%) percent of the votes.

That is nothing less then criminal.

No shit...The dems drew all the ones for the last 100 years before that.
Now, if you have a point, go ahead.
Just admit that you want the rules to change because you don't like not having the US House.

Big deal? Democrats are incompetent at everything they touch. They can't even gerrymander properly.

The 12th district is majority black and has been since it was created by President Clinton. I already linked you to the facts, the 1st and 12th are both as they are due to requirements of the Federal Government and BOTH were created by Democrats.

As to the 4th the Republicans removed 2 Republican areas and added 2 democratic areas to that district.

I realize reality and facts don't sit well with the left but you lose all across the board on this issue.

States set district parameters not the Federal Government. States not Federal. The fact the Federal House is controlled by the Republicans has nothing what so ever to do with individual State districts, they have no power, no say, no control over those districts.

If as you claim gerrymandering is to blame that means that a majority of States actually have republican legislatures and how did they get them if not because the State is mostly republican?

Once again for the slow and stupid only 3 districts are accused of being Gerrymandered and 2 of those were created by democrats at the behest of the Federal Government.
