Five people, including three children, were killed when a van veered into oncoming traffic in Hesperia early Sunday, collided with another vehicle and landed on top of the car.

The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when the driver of the van traveling east on Main Street crossed into the westbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided with a Honda sedan that was stopped at a stop sign at Balsam Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The van was occupied only by a male driver, who had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No arrests have been made.

If he was in California, then cell phone use while driving is prohibited. Therefore if he was using a cell phone (which you're just guessing here), then he should be charged with wreckless driving causing death. However, I know many states that do allow cell phone use while driving. I'll bet states that allow it outnumber those that don't.

And what's the penalty? $25? That counts for nothing. Cell-drivers should be treated worse than drunk drivers. At least the drunk can say " i didn't know i was drunk".

Since you're making an analogy here -- let's follow it to its logical conclusion.

All cars are registered at sale. To sell a car, you sing over a PINK SLIP.

All driver are required to have a license and pass a test.


So, therefore, all guns should be traceable back to their last owner via state or federal registration.

If police can locate a driver via lic. plates and registration, why shouldn't homicide detectives be able to trace a gun back to its owner?

All gun owners and their gun should be registered. If you sell your AR-15 to a stranger, you should go to jail.
