"Surveillance video seemed to show words exchanged between Gardner, his father and protesters before Gardner, flashing a gun, backed away. Gardner was shoved to the ground by two people before he fired two shots, sending people scrambling. Scurlock then jumped on Gardner's back and was shot by Gardner."

It sounds like Scurlock was guilty of assault and Gardner was defending himself. He NEVER should have been indicted.

I'm not sure of the details that led up to the clash, but there is no excuse for the actions of rioters.

The only response to this is the People's justice:
1) Do not report anyone you see killing a rioter.
2) Do not cooperate with any investigation of anyone who killed a rioter.
3) If you are on a jury never convict anyone accused of killing a rioter.
4) Never, ever state that you would kill a rioter in any situation as that can later be used against you if you use a weapon for self defense.
