Beating Rodney King - CBSN and Vladimier Duthiers

oy has this idiot Duthiers got it wrong. He was praising the guy who recorded the Rodney King beating on a newscast this morning. Exposing L.A. police of abuse.
Someone needs to set this guy straight.

Rodney king was a career criminal at the time the beating took place. He was ducking the law for all his life. And when the police caught up with him tempers flared (and I am sure some words tho you cannot hear anything on the video!). Unfortunately some of the officers could not control their emotions and gave mr. King one hell of a beating.
This video led to a public outcry similar to the one in Ferguson(although that incident differs).
The beating of Rodney King led to the acquittal of the officers which in turn led to the riots.
Where a good portion of L.A. was burned, looted and people assaulted by muggers and crazed people.
And here is a side effect of the whole thing...

This whole thing ended up making the career criminal, Rodney King a millionaire.
Is that justice or what?

He was in an out of jail for years. He had a thing for beating up tyranny whores. His money was spent on drugs which finally killed him. He was found at the bottom of a swimming pool.

That was a pretty iconic moment in time. Though Rodney needed his ass beat for racing through residential districts it was not a job for the police and showed the world what Blacks and Mexicans had been saying for decades was occurring in our neighborhoods regarding police brutality. The thing that really caught my attention though was the acquittal even though the beating had been taped and no one could dispute the proof. It reminded me that even if taped white people would figure out a way to say nothing wrong was done.

You are quite right!

It was the arrogant misconduct of the cops who had become convinced, largely because of the arrogant stupidity of their Chief (Gates), that it was perfectly okay to subdue a subject and proceed to sadistically beat him with batons. That is what made Rodney King rich.

I am not suggesting that Rodney King is not an obnoxious scumbag who deserved a beating. That could have been accomplished in the back of a transport car or in a holding cell. But those cops had gradually acquired the notion that they were allowed to do as they pleased, right out in public -- especially to a subject who disrespected them. And that is what made Rodney King rich.

That same attitude has recently re-emerged in police agencies all over the U.S. and has resulted in the controversy and conflict we are witnessing today. Too many cops have come to believe the badge places them outside the boundaries of Law and they are acting on that belief. And that is what made Rodney King -- and dozens of other low-life offenders rich.

The person who recorded the key piece of evidence that a racist jury ignored, bears no responsibility for the result of that jury's verdict.

Exposing the abuse of governmental power is inherently heroic.
