The purpose of a meeting between world leaders is not to debate but to negotiate where negotiations are possible. Unlike a debate, a successful negotiation allows each side to return home knowing that they got something they wanted out the negotiations.Why not? She handed Trump his ass.

During half of the Trump administration most of the countries of the world were consumed by a battle with Covid. Most of the new wars with neighboring countries were put on hold because there was a bigger battle to be fought at home.The purpose of a meeting between world leaders is not to debate but to negotiate where negotiations are possible. Unlike a debate, a successful negotiations allows each side to return home knowing that they got something they wanted out the negotiations.
Long before the two leaders have met, the personnel in the state departments of the two countries have met to determine what areas of difference are negotiable. Often there are none; that is one or both does not feel now is the time for negotiations. If there seems to be some common ground then the state departs working with their president crafts proposals and proceeds to explore possibilities.. Hopefully at some point there is an agreement reached. The two presidents then meet to hammer out any remaining issues.

At this point in time Putin's position on Ukraine and NATO remain the same.
