China develops a anti-submarine missile-torpedo hybrid weapon

yu-8missiletorpedo.jpg

China has developed a hybrid missile-torpedo (ASW missile Yu-8) that literally joins the two capabilities into a single weapon. The chief advantage of this arrangement, of course, is to vastly expand the range and speed of the torpedo system. Yet another advantage is that the attacking torpedo system would not likely be detected by a submerged...

We're going to start seeing China invent superior weaponry over the United states. It takes huge investments into tech to do so throughout the society...

Pretty picture. "is expected to be" and "would not likely be" seem to indicate they have not much more than the pretty pictures at the moment. A land battery system would be greatly limited against submarines anyway. Even our short range SLCM's have ten times the range of that thing so there would be no need for our subs to be within firing range.

To be sure, ASW practitioners will note that such systems are hardly novel since both the superpowers actively developed these systems from the middle of the Cold War at Sea onward. Indeed, a substantial portion of the Chinese article represents an analysis of the successes and failures of those Cold War systems. It explains that the United States pioneered this type of weapon in the early 1960s with the RUR-5A that could initially range out to a distance of ten kilometers—an improvement (at least with respect to range) over either depth bombs (深弹), ASW rockets (火箭助推深弹), or ship-launched ASW torpedoes (舰载反潜鱼雷.) Moscow’s earliest weapon in this domain, the SS-N-14 is also discussed, but this review suggest that Soviet naval planners quickly realized that the weapon “actually had no good use.” (并没有那么好用)

this is old tech.

to missile launch you need an exact location, which means you need to find the sub. we are Decades ahead in stealth.

so let them waste their money to impress the America haters. They know it won't work worth a damn any way

They stole it from the USA.

Move to North Korea, the government controls 100% of the spending

oh, and the helo gives them away, the active sonar from the helo gives it away, the seabed sensor is already known and mocked.

My favorite part of the article is the part about this having utility in case a sub cannot fire in time. If a sub nearby cannot fire in time, this thing surely isn't going to be much use (and would probably hit their own sub in the process)

China shot down a satellite out of orbit. Then we did, just to show those red bastards we can.

Take nukes out of the equation, and we mop the halls of bhudda with them any day of the week.

China has absolutely nothing on us. Nothing, except for second-hand scraps that they had to steal.
