According to the commission report in the article, it is just a matter of time.
From an earlier article, the commission states:
" It is not a question of IF it happens,.. but WHEN it happens."
The EMP concept has already been added to international military tactics and strategy.
Various methods of delivery can be employed, most of which can be accomplished anonymously, implying delayed retaliatory measures.

A report by the now-defunct Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from EMP Attack,
for the first time reveals details on how nuclear EMP weapons
are integrated into the military doctrines of China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.

"Nuclear EMP attack is part of the military doctrines, plans, and exercises of Russia, China,
North Korea, and Iran for a revolutionary new way of warfare against military forces
and civilian critical infrastructures by cyber, sabotage, and EMP," the report states.

Just read a few end of the world novels and you'll see just what an EMP can do. An EMP would send the US back to the 1800's.

Try Scorched Earth by Terry Mixon. That has a CME, or Solar Flare, which would do exactly what an EMP would do and an nuclear missile attack. Good read.

Oh and you can believe we are working on the very same things as the Russians and Chinese are working on.

You know, I was watching either History or the Military channel, and they were talking about this.

Seems that all it would really take to blackout most of the US would be a medium yield nuke, exploded 11 miles above the center of the country, and it would take out a lot of our electrical gear.

You are correct.

It would take out all computers and electronics. Only older cars that don't have computers would run.

We'd be back to walking, riding bikes or riding horses to get around. Nothing electronic would work at all. Just think what electronics are and how much we depend on them every day. Hell we'd be back in the 1800's. No electricity because all the transformer would overload and blow. Not my idea of a good time at all.

We got a solar flare back in 1859 which would pretty much do the same thing. This flare lit up the sky almost all over the world. It screwed up the telegraph system which was pretty much all the high tech there was back them. Its called the Carrington Event if you want to research it. Interesting reading.
