As language has advanced, so have humans. Through language, we have learned to express the differences between dogs and cats, labs from terriers, and dangerous dogs from safe dogs. It is only natural that we have learned to differentiate all the varieties of people as well. Those of us who have had kids know how important it is to provide the safest environment possible to protect our children, right? Classifying people helps us identify the most dangerous among us, but it also gives us a chance to recognize the brightest among us. Classifying people allows us to do that.

The key to being able to classify people is that we must be able to remain anonymous as individuals. Information that isolates a classification of people allows us to reference exactly who we are referring to, and differentiate them from other unique classifications, but we cannot ever treat individuals from any classification as if they are what their group is. We cannot know what any individual represents.
