Unenforceability is certainly a legitimate argument as it demonstrates that the law cannot fulfill its stated purpose.

Unenforceability is certainly a legitimate argument as it demonstrates that the law cannot fulfill its stated purpose.

That a law imposes on these Sheriffs a legal obligation to enforce a law that is impossible to enforce may give them standing. I think there's also an argument that such a law forces a law-enforcement officer into a position where he cannot even fully obey the law, for his legal obligation to enforce this law puts him in conflict with his legal obligation to uphold the Constitution.
