Congressman convicted on three felony counts, faces 5 years per. Should he resign or serve while serving time?

At the time Ayoub made the call, he had already been approached by the FBI and was working with the bureau. In fact, the FBI asked Ayoub to contact Fortenberry and recorded the conversation.

FBI foils another FBI plot.
Does lying to the FBI constitute perjury?

Or is it a separate statute?

He's willing to sacrifice the truth in order to faithfully represent his constituency.

Given the FBI's own criminal activities and blatant lying, most of their cases should probably be thrown out, same as with any other ongoing corrupt police agency caught in an ongoing criminal conspiracy, especially one that involves falsification of evidence.

They are separate.

One trick they do is get a mark to make a statement about some mundane unmemorable conversation or whatever. Then months or years later come to get another statement that contradicts their previous statement after they deceptively convince the mark that their previous statement was probably mistaken.

So then the corrupt cops have deceptively got the mark to make contradictory statements. A federal offense.

This is why you never talk to the FBI. You have no way of knowing whether or not they are crooked cops. So you can never trust them.

If you read the details of the case, you can see a great deal of evidence that is simple entrapment. He will win on appeal and never serve a day in jail. The FBI will have it's ass handed to itself yet again.
Only if the entrapment bits directly bear upon the charges. Nope, he'll be found guilty. Whether he'll serve any time remains questionable.

No one forced him to lie to the FBI.

They'll probably kick him out of the House, won't they?

I doubt it. It takes two thirds to expel a member. Unlikely many Republicans would move against their own. And Pelosi won't want to set a precedent that could come back to bite her in the ass.

I'm old enough to remember when it was allegedly disqualifying for Clinton to even be a candidate simply because of an investigation that was happening. Sad thing is, he'd probably be reelected again once he gets out. But he won't be able to even vote for himself. :21:

GOP Rep. Jeff Fortenberry convicted of lying to FBI

What a pleasant surprise to see someone in Congress do the right thing. Then again, it's kind of depressing to be surprised at it.
