no, it's not old news. one of the speakers at the announcement today pretty much said the same thing.

The Illinios Secretary of State says he will not certify the appointment, and Senate Democrats say they will not accept anyone appointed by the Governor.

Mr Obama says the US Senate "cannot accept" the appointment.
