After a massive search in a remote area of Idaho, police on Saturday located a suspected killer and the 16-year-old girl he allegedly kidnapped. The girl was found safe but the alleged kidnapper was killed, police said.
Sheriff Bill Gore in San Diego County, Calif., said 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio was killed by an FBI agent at 4:22 p.m. Pacific time near a campsite. His captive, 16-year-old Hannah Anderson, was located and appears well, Gore told reporters Saturday evening.
Rhett Anderson, the father, has been notified. Obviously, he is elated that we found his daughter alive and plans are being made to reunite him with his daughter hopefully tomorrow morning, Gore said.
The search spanned three states and thousands of miles. The suspect left with the girl last Sunday after her mother and brother were found slain at the girls house in California. The pair was located today near Morehead Lake, in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, the largest roadless area in the lower 48 states, sprawling across central Idaho and reaching north to the Montana border, near the town of Cascade.
About 150 FBI agents converged on the region Saturday morning, joining roughly 100 law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Idaho State Police, Valley and Ada County sheriffs offices, the San Diego Sheriffs Department and other agencies, the Associated Press reported.

I guess the wanted poster said "dead or alive". Interesting that the story doesn't elaborate about the "gunfire". Was the bad guy taken out by an FBI sniper or did he try to shoot it out?

Someone from the gov'ment did a good job. FBI did a good job. Difficult to go negative on this story. Give it time.

Thank you camp...I am not looking for any negatives.......but something is weird about the fathers reaction to this whole episode. Some primal anger not there.
The grandparents were interviewed and the grandmother said a 'fitting result' for both JD and Hannah.
Always dangerous to assume anything--but San Diego is a progressive area--it could be that the family tries to focus on spiritual ideals, for lack of a better term.
I generally assume that family members are in a state of shock during this sort of crisis. fwiw.
