Yes we need to pay for bridges. How many bridges have collapsed in the last decade or so?

Our infrastructure is falling apart and is seriously outdated.

The people of our nation have been calling for new infrastructure for decades.

trump ran on it in 2016 but never did anything about it once he was president.

We have trillions to throw away on tax cuts for the filthy rich but we don't need to pay for bridges?

We need responsible people in our government.

We need to pay for bridges, but not as pork in a COVID relief bills. They should be payed for in a highway bill. Plus most bridges are a state or local matter and shouldn't be payed for by the Federal Government.

Well Dana, what would expect from the man who pulled off the largest Medicare fraud in US history?
As long as Florida keeps electing idiots and criminals like Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis, they'll be in bigly trouble.

Unless they are on Federal interstate highways (post roads), the Federal Government has zero responsibility to build, remove or maintain them.

If you need confirmation of this, please check Article I, Section 8 of the US Constitution and Amendment 10 to the same document.

Then pass an infrastructure bill.....it shouldn't be part of the Covid package....same with the tunnel in Silicon Valley

as far as tax cuts, since taxes have been cut, and after every other major tax cut, going back to Kennedy, we have seen tax revenue increase.

AND trillions to throw away on the Smithsonian and Amtak which are perpetually in the red with
a hand out waiting for Uncle Sam to fill it with cash.
Maybe if we weren't supporting leftist labor unions or the Smithsonian and Amtrak, for instance,
we would have all we need for bridges.

What happened to all that "shovel ready" infrastructure money Obama demanded? Oh, right...it went mostly
to unions and keeping teachers fat and happy.

There is funding, by the way, for cleaning up waterways so it's not as if our infrastructure is
being totally ignored.

I only see one bridge mentioned in the bill. It is (Chuck Schumer's) Seaway International Bridge.

It's only $1.5M in funding (less than 0.0001% of the total bill), so it's not really worth making a big deal about.

Here is some other pork I noticed with a quick review...

National endowment for the arts. $135M
National endowment for the humanities. $135M
Institute of museum and library services. $200M
Preservation and maintenance of Native American languages. $10M
Raising the Federal minimum wage.
Head Start. $1B
Grants to support survivors of sexual assault. $198M
Child abuse prevention and treatment. $250M
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance $4.5B
Planned Parenthood. $50M
Environmental justice (health outcome disparities from pollution). $50M
State fiscal recovery. $220B
Local fiscal recovery (Dem cities and such). $130B

"Do we need to pay for bridges?"

What, does he think they grow in place?

That never happens. Florida's Turnpike and the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami both were paid off a long time ago and and then have not taken down any tollboths in fact on the Turnpike the added some and jacked up the tolls

It's that sort of complacency, its not that much, don't worry about it, that allows these bills to become monstrosities in the first place. All that pork probably started that way, and became a staple is trashy government spending habits.

Infrastructure has no place in a bill to help people recover from the COVID-19. If you want infrastructure spending, write a separate bill.

Show us the list of bridges that collapsed in the past ten years. You know, all of those maintained by the Federal Government.

Trillions were NOT thrown away on tax cuts. Our revenues increased. As you know too, the tax cuts helped all Americans across the board.

THIS is a responsible person in our government? Who knew?

I think the intent of my post was the exact opposite of what you describe, but the $1.5M for a bridge between NY and Canada did not excite me much with all of the other huge wasteful spending in the bill that is much more important.

Jim
