Considering that American poor people these days eat regular meals, sleep in beds, have color TVs and IPhones, and drive cars, I would say that the War on Poverty was a major success.

The poor that LBJ fought for had no shoes, running water or electricity.

It wan't good intentions.......the democrat party had been murdering and abusing black Americans since the days of slavery, and had been fighting against every single Civil Rights act up to the last 2...and johnson himself voted against anti-lynching laws......so johnson realized they had to do something to get the votes of blacks.......and to keep them voting for democrats even though the democrats were the party of racism and violence.

These are the conditions of "overwork" and "too much service".

The ones who need to be "served" the most are the crooked doctors and corrupt cops who treat homelessness as a mental illness, and vagrancy or subsistence below a certain net worth as a crime in and of itself. Poor folks need to get off the alcohol and other depressants and be enabled or habilitated to lift themselves up by their own bootstraps.

When we talk about "serving" bad cops and worthless doctors, the conditions of overwork, too much service, vice, and human trafficking have already prevailed to the point where we have exhausted all avenues of redress by service of civil process in their court system.
