Probably from say 10 years and going back hundreds of years they were never far right because the vast majority of American both republicans and Democrats were very patriotic, passionate about the country and demanded we be as good as we can be. That's why America went from some settlers on boats to be a world leader in record time. Other countries a thousand years old were inferior to America after just 400 years.

You seem to buy into the idea that being very patriotic and protective of your home is a "fringe" concept. I came from a semi rural family with a history of serving in the military. I am patriotic, I love my country, and I want my country to be as strong as it's ever been and I do not hesitate to say so. I love god, I love freedom and I love America. I am fringe for believing in that, if this was 1950 you would be the fringe one.

Those groups are how most Americans felt for a very long time until America began being over run with cowards and weaklings.
