Karl Marx Bernstein was the son of card carrying communists who hated Nixon because he was a HUAC prosecutor in the 50's during the Truman administration. Woodward and Bernstein used a unidentified unverified anonymous "informant" alleged to be inside the Nixon administration to keep the issue alive and sell papers for the Washington Post.
