I no longer ask people their views on whether or not they lean left or right; whether they are Democrat, or Republican, or Libertarian, or Socialist or Free Market oriented.
There is now a single question, a simple question, which makes a discussion worthwhile of my time with another, regardless of their views.
If they answer that he is a Hero, I will gladly continue political discussion of them, regardless of their current political leanings, because I know that this person yearns for liberty, and that there is always hope for this person.
If they answer "Not Sure," or "Traitor," there is nothing more to say. You are an enemy of the Republic, of the Constitution, and those who are bound by Oath to uphold it.

Is Edward Snowden a Hero or a Traitor?
