Federal Aviation Administration administrator Steve Dickson has ordered the agency's aviation safety experts to issue an Emergency Airworthiness Directive, requiring "immediate or stepped-up inspections of Boeing 777 airplanes equipped with certain Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines."

That is crazy. I would have been freaking out.

777's are grounded in Japan. It can't be long before the taxpayers have to give Boeing billions. (not that we don't already)

I love how the media takes stupid and runs with it. The engine did not 'explode" of there would be no aircraft remaining. It is obvious from the damage it was a compressor failure. It is not a good situation, but also not too uncommon in jet aircraft.
