It's not about homeschooling or christian beliefs. It's about the family knowingly breaking an almost 300 year old law, and then claiming to be victims when faced with the inevitable consequences.

On top of that, there are private christian schools in Germany that the family could have sent their kids to. Breaking the law with homeschooling was not their only option.
