The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) will pay up to $1.5 million in development costs for a powered flight system capable of quickly moving a single person. The system would allow troops to zip across the battlefield to fight in cities, rescue downed pilots, or enter or exit the battlefield. The Pentagon Is Ready to Give Soldiers Jetpacks (msn.com)
Just the beginning

Zip? Parachute regiments used to accomplish the same thing without a million dollar gizmo on their backs. What happens if you get a bullet in the gizmo? Does it launch you into outer space?

Jetpacks have no military value. Almost impossible to control and very limited on fuel.
