Question: How do you think the Presidential election would turn out if both political parties split and there were four viable candidates: Hillary (Dem), Bernie (Socialist), Kasich (Rep) and Trump (Independent)?

Remember, it only takes a plurality to win all of a State's electoral votes, but a majority of electoral votes to win the Presidency. Otherwise, the newly elected House of Representatives picks from the top two, with each State delegation getting one vote.

Hillary would probably win some big states like CA and NY, but could she win enough smaller states for an electoral majority? If not, who might come in second and which of them would the House pick?

I don't know enough about individual state politics to predict an outcome, but some of you may. One of the interesting things about this scenario is that a distant second in electoral votes could be all it takes to become President.

Don't know, but it would be very interesting if Trump and Sanders were to go third party. That scenario just might put an end to the D and R parties...and that would be fantastic.

What else would be interesting that the two non traditional candidates, Trump and Sanders joined forces to start a third party. Hard to believe, but did you ever think a state would cancel their own primary and claimed victory for a losing candidate?
Our politics are so corrupt, we need a new beginning.

A Sanders/Trump ticket would probably sell better than a Trump/Sanders ticket. Actuarial tables, bitch that they are, suggest that each would then get a turn and what liberal could resist giving someone their fair turn? But, whoops, wasn't Hillary's fair turn in 2008???

Logically, the outlier would win:

Explain? Here is an electoral vote map:

I think Hillary would win the most electoral votes, but maybe not a majority if Bernie siphons off a few. In that case, the second-most electoral votes would be critical because the top two would go to the House. Who do you think would come in second?

What polls are you looking at?

What polls are you looking at?

None. (I was hoping you could fill me in.) But I don't think Hillary would win 270 electoral votes if Bernie peeled some off. In that case, the House would have to decide between her and the 2nd place finisher. Who might that be?

I was pointing out that Bernie is the more different from Hillary than the Republicans are. The more contestants there are, the better he would do, just logically speaking.

Do you think he could win some States (by plurality) if he ran as an independent?

Against Hillary and a generic Republican? Maybe not. I doubt that he would run as an Independent. If HRC didn't get the nomination, she might try.

Seeing as how Bernie already is an Independent (Senator), I don't think his running as an independent for President is that far fetched. He could probably win Vermont as a write-in candidate. However, if both he and Trump ran as independents, they might split the anti-establishment vote and allow the other candidates to win enough States by slender pluralities.

it's too late for him to get on the ballot as an independent.

while your fantasy is interesting, it's ultimately a non-sequitur since it can't happen.

as to trump, he couldn't even get his kids' party affiliation right in a timely fashion.

If Sanders win it will be or if Clinton win or if Trump win.

They will new 2020 or 2024 of the Republican Party.

Of those:

- John Kasich
- Marco Rubio
- Ted Cruz
- Jeb Bush

I hopes or new hope are Jeb !

I've change me from cuban.

Thanks much this best treath.

Thinking now that Cruz go over to Canada and only 3 pcs in Republican choise.

Only 3 pieces Republicans in 2020 or 2024.

If Trump win election they will been in 2024.

Jeb is my new favorite of the Republicans.
