Thats BS. America is the land of opportunity and its important to make sure that all citizens receive equally opportunity to succeed in our country. If a group is being favored or discriminated against through either wage suppression or job opportunities because of race, religion, gender, or sexuality then it goes against the spirit of what I consider America to be about. These issues have happened in the past and continue to happen today. So the question is how to best deal with it. What do we measure, where do we draw the lines, and how do we regulate in a way that still allows businesses to operate in a free way

It has been illegal to discriminate for a long time.
Yet it still happens...

Well, it does and it always will. Hell, my ex-sister in law is a lesbian and only hires lesbians. Being a gay female is a prerequisite. Now, I can tell you from experience, more often than not, women cannot do t he same job as men. Not because they are less qualified mind you. A lot of the time they cannot travel or work weekends due to family restraints.
Fair points. Do you believe in reverse racism? For example do you think your ex-sister in law is being racist towards straight males by only hiring lesbians? Or do you think it makes sense for oppressed groups to be allowed room for self promotion?

Honestly, I really don't care.. and I'm not trying to be ugly. We're talking a small locksmith company, maybe 20 employees. Is she discriminating? Absolutely. Imagine if I only hired straight males!!!

A better question which I should have posted in the OP is... For those who think we have problems with the gender gap in our industry what factors and stats do you reference to show where the problems exists?

You cannot say that if women are 52% of the population that all jobs must be 52% women. The numbers don't automatically mean a gender gap...
I agree, i'm trying to drill down on what factors are considered when concluding that there is a gender gap problem. This OP was inspired by the release of an "anti-diversity" memo by a Google staffer

A Google employee's anti-diversity memo sparks debate

Is this for real? You do know that the gender gap is bullshit of the highest order, designed to drive a political agenda. You prove it by making up

Women have every right that men do plus some extra, that's all you need to know.

If you truly stand for equality, you should demand that affirmative action be demolished immediately, and women suffrage revoked unless women agree to the draft like men do.

Well, I'm no fan of diversity for diversity's sake. I don't know how one proves gender bias... too many factors. Now, if Google routinely just didn't hire women yeah, Houston, we have a problem. Shoot, I went to a SQL training day last Saturday, I can tell you, 99% were men in those sessions!!!! BUT.... they actually had sessions on women in the workplace!!! WTF??? At a SQL session?
