GOP will paralyze Senate floor with reading of 1,924-page spending bill

Let's borrow more and give the very wealthy more tax breaks. Then, as they all move to Europe, the rest of us can work for the Chinese when they foreclose.

Republicans will paralyze the Senate floor for 50 hours by forcing clerks to read every single paragraph of the 1,924-page, $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill.

Senate clerks are expected to read the massive bill in rotating shifts around the clock — taking breaks to drink water and pop throat lozenges — to keep legislative business on track, according to a Democratic leadership aide.

Read every single solitary word of it. I don't care if it takes until Jan. 4th. Stay there and read it. Every word.

As they should. Big Governnment should be paralyzed early and often.

Well at least it would mean some one had read this bill.Maybe it will give us an idea of what's in the thing before it's passed..Right Nancy?

i think it should be either the senator or the representatives responsibility to read every and understand every piece of legislation before voting on it.

how can you make an objective decision without doing so? if they arent doing their civic responsibility then why are they still there?
Why? The majority leader tell them how to vote on most issues if they want the continued support of the party. Corporate and special interest groups tell them how to vote if they want their financial support in the next election. Finally, the Congressman's staff will read the bill and summarize it. For so many congressman, they just need know how to hit the yes or no button.

The polling question reads where if you are not making over $250,000 dollars you would not have a problem making someone else pay more in taxes. The question should read more like this: If you made $1,000,000 in one year how much of it would you want the government to take? I bet you would not find many at 45%.

If they do force that the bill be read, then ALL Senators should be required to remain in the chambers while the reading is going on

Actually, not a bad idea. They should do this with all bills. It will:

1) slow down the silliness
2) make them write bills with a little more brevity
3) let us watch them on CSPAN if we want
4) keep them from sneaking anything in

I like! :clap2:

FWIW they ought to read every word of EVERY bill before voting on it.

Not just the bills they want to block, but every bill.

That is correct. They should all be there to hear it and make an informed decision.

Anything to stop the suicide bomber Dems from blowing up the deficit even more.

You've got to be kidding. It's giving the GOP what it wants (extension of tax cuts for the top 2%) that is going to blow up the deficit even more!

There will be celebrations in the street as we are free from thier bs for a few days.

the spending bill is dead, because Mitch who wanted a $1.1 trillion budget, got his $1.1 trillion budget and then didnt like it. wait a min.... that doesnt make any sense.

neither does this: GOP senators will vote against spending bill over earmarks -- theirs and others' - CNN

GOP senators who put a bunch of pork into the spending bill, all of a sudden reverse course and say earmarks are bad and decided to vote them down.:cuckoo:

this bill has been in the works since Sep. In Nov. the voters made it clear this won't be tolerated.

They are against it now b/c they want to keep thier day jobs.

exactly, they base their votes on trying to get re-elected instead of standing on principle. this is the reality that we have come to. its more important to get re-elected that to have principle to stand on.

They were for spending before they were against it

Doesn't matter who put the bill together....they are still the Party of No

lets say you have 100 people in a room
50 vote one way, and 50 vote another

They were put their by the people that wanted them there. To represent what they want, not what that person wants. It's not about thier principles, it's about the will of the people.

If you want to see something wrong in our elected officials doing as we tell them...

Then I think you're seeing things the way you want to see them instead of the way they are or should be.

Earmarks are bribes that waste our money. It may not be a lot of money, but we have to make cuts everywhere.
